Chihayafuru-p1 Chihayafuru_Part_II-p1

Visually speaking, this movie is beautiful. The cast looks good, they are good actors, the setting is gorgeous, the clothes... Main reason why I watch both movies. I am impressed on how much Japanese movies and doramas improved in cinematography; they used to look more home-made and dark-ish. Now the colors are vibrant and everything looks breathtaking.

I did not see the anime yet, but I've read the first 3 volumes of the manga. All 3 volumes I've rated 4 stars in GoodReads. Karuta seems like an exciting sport, since it is more about mental ability. And another of the things I love about Chihayafuru is the friendship between the 2 boys and Chihaya.

Alas, the movie ruined that for me. This was more about a love triangle. Or not. Taichi is in love with Chihaya but he thinks that she loves Arata, so he sulks and get jealous. Chihaya talks about Arata all the time and loves to spend her free time calling him on the phone. Arata... well, besides being an emo, he doesn't portrayed much.

The first movie was too slow at the beginning. It takes long to finally get on the point, which is karuta. I've read several reviews that said Movie 2 was more exciting, but it wasn't. It is true that we get to see The Queen of Karuta, but it wasn't exciting like I was hoping.

So my conclusion: it wasn't exciting. There are a lot of tears, more than I wanted. Parts of the story that were simple scenes in the manga (like Tsukue-san giving up and then crying and rejoining the group) were more melodramatic in the movie, which didn't have to be. Taichi looks like a wimp, and honestly, I didn't like Hirose Suzu as Chihaya. I liked the trio of Ooe, Nikuman and Tsukue more.

Akinori Kimura (Sadao Abe) and his wife Mieko (Miho Kanno) opens an apple orchard in their hometown of Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture. Due to Meiko's allergic reaction to pesticides, Akinori Kimura has to grow his apples without the aid of chemicals. Because of this challenge, his family endures hardships and suffers severe financial difficulties. Akinori Kimura even contemplates suicide. A miracle then happens .... (asiawiki-2013)
Miracle_Apples-P1

Very heartwarming. Abe Sadao plays the unlucky underdog so well, you can't help but root for him. And in this movie, he has a beautiful wife and 3 cutie girls. More reason to root for him! It was heartbreaking to see Year 1, Year 2, Year 7 and nothing changing. Their situation getting worse and not getting any support from his family and from friends and neighbors. Still he tried and tried to grow apples without chemicals. And never once he resented his wife. He only blamed him.

The setting was gorgeous. Beautiful orchards, the greenery was so pretty.

I feel sad for the father-in-law... the only one who supported Akinori...

Kanno Miho is so pretty. Her tears moved me... She talked funny in the movie but I understand is the accent of that city.

My only complain would be the length of the movie. More than 2 hours. Not that it was dragging (all scenes were necessary), but it still felt long.

This is a slice of life, a touching one, and very easy to watch. The older daughter was very good. Just what her poor father needed :(

Orange_(Japanese_Movie)-p2

I wanted to watch this since I saw some pictures, in spite of not liking the manga. I tried the first volume, but it was MEH for me. It surprised me the overrating of this manga. I mean, it is a typical shoujo with some new ideas (time travel) but the shoujo heroine is the typical shoujo girl (nice and dumb, falls for the first guy who is nice to her); guy is the typical shoujo hero: tsundere, hot and cold. And here I was, watching the movie.

Story: 7/10
Since I am not a fan of the manga, to me the weakest part of the movie was the story itself. The "romance" was a bit lame, the concept of the parallel world/time travel was weak (why the heck a professor is taking a class about this subject IN HIGH SCHOOL? And how Naho and Suwa were able to accomplish their goal was never explained). Naho was a super weak character, also lame. Not an ounce of personality. Too nice, too naive, too soft. Needed more backbone. And her friends, other than Suwa, were poorly characterized (not the actor's fault.. more like, there wasn't enough material for them). Nevertheless, I never thought the movie was boring or that it moved slow. I enjoyed watching the whole 2 hours non-stop. I like that it deals with the subject of depression and suicide. I like that the letter tells Naho what is going to happen and what she needs to do (although she doesn't always follow the instructions... like I said, WEAK!). It made me think about what happens with Kakeru after The Night.. he needs all the support of his friends and girlfriend, but that is not enough... He needs to seek professional help as well.

So yeah, a bit of contradiction. I didn't like the manga and the movie is exactly the same (at least, with the first volume) but I liked all minutes of it.

Cast: 8/10
My first time watching the popular YamaKen and Tsuchiya Tao in a movie. Yes, I've seen them in variety shows, and that's it. She was good, not stiff and actually cute. She has a nice smile although her voice is too childish. Soft but childish. On the other hand, YamaKen looked like a manga hero. I am not saying he is handsome, but he has something, especially when he is serious. Not a fan of his smile (it is kinda awkward) but he can cry. I was pleasantly surprise at all his crying, it was that good. I felt sorry for him.

One of the reasons why I wanted to watch it was because of Ryusei Ryo, my unofficial son. He did really good by playing Suwa... it made me kinda mad he loved weak Naho! A good friend, and so cute <3

In the manga I felt MEH about their friendship. It was predictable and not moving at all. I still felt that way in the movie... I don't see why/how the other 3 characters came to care so much for Kakeru. Why, when they weren't even "real" friends? In the manga, their relationship felt corny to me, but in the movie, it was lacking. Lacking moments together, chemistry between them... At the end, it was a bit touching nevertheless.

Music/Cinematography: 10/10
I needed to add the Cinematography thing because it was SOOO GOOD. The locations where all the movie was filmed... GORGEOUS. I don't know if it really is Matsumoto town, but it was all so beautiful... the shrines, the bridge, the trees... In fact, I did cry a little bit while watching the movie, and it was because of the beautiful landscapes. It reminded me so much of Kyoto! Which I visited less than a month ago.The girls dressed in their yukatas... the fireworks... everything in the movie is SOOO Japanese. And their Sakura Trees! Breathtaking. I loved it, all of it, even the school.

The music was also good, kinda sad, if I remember it correctly. I mean, it was good and very appropriate for the movie, but it did not leave any impact on me.

Rewatching Value: 9/10
Not that I am a fan now of Orange (I won't continue reading the manga, that's for sure!) but I really loved the movie, and if someone ask me to watch it together, I'll gladly do it. I expect that every fan of the manga would love this movie, it was so well done, and I wouldn't change anything about it.

Takeo Goda (Ryohei Suzuki) is a high school student 2 m tall and weighting more than 100 kg. He has a righteous character. The male students adore him, but female students do not like him. All of the girls Takeo likes prefer his handsome friend Makoto Sunakawa (Kentaro Sakaguchi).

One day, Takeo saves female high school student Rinko Yamato (Mei Nagano) from a pervert on train. Takeo falls in love with her at first sight. He feels Rinko likes Makoto, but Makoto isn't the one she likes. Takeo struggles to liaise between Rinko and Makoto. (asianwiki-2015)

My_Love_Story!!_(Japanese_Movie)-p1

A veru cute and well done live action! I've read 2 volumes of the manga, and I am currently watching the anime, so I can't compare. But as a standalone movie, I loved it. It is very anime-like, very cute, beautiful cinematography, gorgeous colors, well paced story, and what is the best, I loved the cast. Mainly the 3 main characters... Suzuki Ryohei looked so much lika an anime character, he did the voice and expressions so well without looking ridiculous. Kentaro looked attractive as always (the hair, though, is not my favorite... he looked so cute in "Kounodori", which is my favorite hairstyle so far), and the girl was so cute! In the manga (and currently, in the anime) I find the girl too "kawaii", with that height and that voice ... next to Takeo it looks like a little girl with her father... but the movie worked perfectly because the girl is not short, nor annoying at all. In fact, her smile was adorable!

I would loved that when they confess their feelings, at least they hold hands, but I understand it couldn't be done because Suzuki-san is way older than Mei. That may be my only complain about the movie. About the story (and the reason why I dropped the manga) is when there is that fire and Takeo saves everyone. I think that kind of plot a lazy way to make the MC hero in the girl's eyes and the reader/audience's eyes.

I've read comments of people going crazy about the extra scene in the credits, but for me personally, I thought poor Kentaro couldn't breath properly XD poor Suna!

Saori has always disliked her gay father and has lived her life denying his existence. One rainy day she receives a visit at work from a young man called Haruhiko. He tells her that her father is dying of cancer and that the nursing home he operates is in danger of closing. Out of curiosity and debt, Saori goes to visit her father at the House of Himiko, a nursing home for gay old men. It is a sad place but filled with sardonic good cheer. Surprised but pleased, Haruhiko shows her around. The old men who live there are delighted. Saori is at first repelled by the relationship between Haruhiko and Himiko but she soon sees that their feelings are genuine. She begins taking an interest in keeping the nursing home alive... La_Maison_de_Himiko

What a depressing movie. I was in such a low spirits after watching it. I almost did not write a review, why bother? I want to forget I have seen it. I was expecting so much of it... it has Shibasaki Kou and Odagiri Joe, do I need to add more? I have a crush on both of them. She is gorgeous (and her legs!); he is gorgeous. Unfortunately this movie is far more being gorgeous...

Depressing because of how the okama spend their last years. Depressing because Odagiri's character is in love with Himiko who is drying. Depressing because Odagiri's character sleeps with whoever can give him pleasure or money for the institution (he goes as far as sleeping with a corpse! Meaning, an ugly, old perv.. yikes!) Depressing because Shibasaki's character could never forgive her father, who abandoned his wife and family to live as an okama (transvestite). Depressing because it seems like eventually she falls in love with Odagiri, who in spite of liking her very much, cannot be sexually attracted to her, no matter how much he tried. Depressing because, since there is no money (no other pervert to provide) for the institution, she sleeps with his boss, and becomes a regular mistress, even if she doesn't want to and is unhappy about it. But at least, the okama have a place to live.

Depressing as hell.

Oh, and if I was the teenager, I would have also a major crush on Odaigiri <3 Too bad that hair is all over his nice face, and his white clothes are horrendous.

One of my desires is to watch the taiga "Atsu Hime". I am dying to watch it ^_^ but the dorama is nowhere to be seen/downloaded. I've read so many good reviews, not only about the story and costume and acting, but also about the chemistry between Aoi and Masato Sakai. So when I saw this title, I knew I had to watch it.

The movie is about depression, but it is not a depressing movie at all. In fact, it is rather cute, with all the little drawings (Haruko is a mangaka, and her drawings are so nice). Her diary, about her husband depression, was adorable. But it is not only the drawings, but the support Mikio gets from his wife and his in-laws that was nice. It is not easy to have someone depressed in your home, but Haruko tried her best to support her husband.

I learnt a couple of things about depression, so this movie is not only heart-warming but also informative. And touching, in a couple of scenes. The filmography was great, their little home was cozy and outside, with the sakura blooms, was so nice.

Masato Sakai has such a dorky face, so this suit him perfectly. The movie does not have a beginning nor an ending, which is something that I have found mostly in J-doramas and movies. Which I like, because not everything has to have a beginning and/or an end. Also, although it is a 2-hour movie long, it is never dragging nor slow.

Japan is one of the country with the highest amount of suicides. I've read that it is mostly because of work, which is the main reason why Mikio is depressed. The routine, his work-environment, having to take the train everyday, all squeeze like sardines are enough motives. At least he has his pretty, supportive wife, who is there for him "in health and sickness".

I wonder if this was based on real life...

"GS Wonderland" is about the 1960's Group Sounds bands - A Japanese pop movement inspired by the Beatles and other mid-1960's Brit Pop.

Three young men set out to start their own band "The Diamonds" when they are signed to a recording contract during their very first rehearsal. Things turn for the unexpected when their agent brings Mick (Chiaki Kuriyama) into the group as their keyboardist. All the believe Mick looks remarkably like a girl! (asianwiki-2008)

GS_Wonderland_poster

One of the few J-movie that it isn't slow. It has a good pace, the actors were good (personally, I love Takaoka Sousuke, the rival from The Knuckles) . The main song performed by The Diamonds is kinda catchy, and although I was hoping for more laughs, it was entertaining. I wonder of that era really existed in Japan... It was kinda funny to see all of them in hippie clothes!

The end was a bit meh. Maybe I did not really understand it... Anyway, it is less than 2 hours, which is WOW because most J-movies are 2 hours long. Easy to watch.

There are three sisters: 29-year-old Sachi Kouda (Haruka Ayase), 22-year-old Yoshino Kouda (Masami Nagasawa) and 19-year-old Chika Kouda (Kaho). They live at a house in Kamakura, Japanese. Their house was left by their grandmother.

One day, they receive news of their father's death. When the sisters were young, their parents divorced and their father left them. They haven't seen their father in 15 years. Upon hearing the news on their father's death, the sisters attend their father's funeral.

At the funeral, they meet their stepsister Suzu Asano (Suzu Hirose). She is 14-years-old and there are no one to take care of her. Oldest sister Sachi invites Suzu to live with them. (asianwiki-2015)

Umimachi_Diary-p2

A lovely movie, where "nothing happens", meaning it is a slice-of-life, the story of 3 sisters and their new relationship with their half-sister. There are no dramatic moments. I love this kind of stories, that are simple and where the setting is in a small town. It makes the story more heart-warming I think.

Regarding the cast, almost all of them are familiar. There are even big names that have like a cameo, since their roles are so tiny. Like Suzuki Ryohei, Ryo Kase and Sakaguchi Kentaro (although the latter is just beginning his acting career). To be honest, I am not a fan of Nagasawa Masami, and I would have preferred if Kaho's role was bigger. I mean, Kaho is miles ahead of Masami, but their roles suited them: Kaho as the oddball and Masami showing lots of skin.

The boy who was friend of Suzu was so cute! And I can't believe Haruka had a role where she was the mistress of a married man. Who wanted to get a divorce, but still.

The best thing about this movie, besides the filmography, is that it is mostly women: women and their love life, women and their family, women and their job, women and their every-day life. Very nice movie.

I am happy to say that Shallowness Lost! Which was one of the reasons why it took me so long to watch this (the other one was, err, well, this is OHSHC, I was sure -and I was right- it was going to be ridiculous!). As much as I like Yusuke (not that much, but I like him) he did not look right to play Tamaki. And the twins! Uggh, they are all supposed to be ikemen and what! they are not. Turns out, the 3 of them proved me wrong!

I love Yusuke as Tamaki, he portrayed Tamaki so well. He was never stiff and I never thought he was overreacting in a bad way, but in Tamaki's way. He was funny and charming, and yes, he looked silly most of the times, but that was the fun. I love every time he was yelling "Haruhiiii!".

And the twins! OMG, they were excellent. Although I love the manga to death, I never truly liked the twins. They were too "melodramatic", and I was never a fan of their kind of fanservice (twin love incest or whatever). Worse, since I am "Tamaki Team" since chapter 1, I was never happy with the harem thing. BUT.... this dorama made me see a whole new point of view. I now understand more and accept why both of them are the way they are. And why both of them fall in love with Haruhi. At the end, they both became my 2nd favorite (which I did not have) and I admit I pitied them at the end. Poor guys :( but at least both of them love Tamaki as much as they love Haruhi that is not a big heartbreak.

Do I really need to add that Daito was good as Kyoya? He was the perfect combo: handsome with an evil smile. I think that only once I thought that he needed to be taller, but otherwise, to me he was perfect (and he looked really good with glasses). Again, I never approved in the manga that Kyoya liked -romantically- Haruhi, but I liked the episode where he shows her that he could have attacked her if he wanted to. It was like seeing that scene from another point of view.

I've read somewhere that Kawaguchi Haruna (Haruhi) was too stiff as an actress. But to me, as Haruhi, she was perfect. I never cared about her wig; it looked good on her and I would have never guessed it was a wig, except in the first chapter when it was longer. She made good expressions when she was surprised, and whenever she smiled, she looked very cute. I am very satisfied with this Haruhi.

On the other hand, I can't say I am satisfied with Honey-sempai and Mori-sempai. Yes, the actor who played Honey-sempai looked the part, but while it works in anime and manga, it doesn't in real life. Instead of look cute, he looked effeminate and, well, ridiculous. The CG when he hugged or jumped on someone, making him looked smaller was weird and kinda creepy. Thank God they did it only in the first couple of episodes. And really, a teenager carrying a stuffed bunny is awkward and not cute at all... As for Mori-sempai... the actor looked like him, but Mori-sempai should be a guy who either looks bored or just expression-less, not like a robot, like this actor did.

I was not really happy at first with making Nekozawa such an important character, but what can I say, I love Ryo! He is like one of my children (all Kyoryugers are) and I am just happy to watch him grow as an actor and have different roles from Kingu. And objectively, he did well as Nekozawa. Not only he looked like him, but I love how he portrayed him... it was like watching Undertaker from Kuroshituji, with that smile and black cape. I am so happy for him XD

The rating for this dorama was very low... it shows you that dorama with low rating can be really good! True, I wasn't a fan with the first couple of episodes, but when I was in Ep. 5 or so, I was loving it. It is true to the story, and I liked most actors in their roles. Highly recommended for OHSHC who aren't picky when it comes to looks! (Tamaki isn't blond; Honey-sempai isn't blond; Kyoya isn't tall, etc.)

We need more! As much as I liked the movie, I think they lost precious time with the story of Michelle and her brother. Just when Haruhi realized her feelings for Tamaki! While Tamaki still didn't.... There are lots of silly CG (little hearts, blushed cheeks) that I enjoyed, just like in the dorama. And the settings were beautiful! Not only the elegant school, but Asakusa and other places in Tokyo. At least there wasn't a budget when they had to film this!

And a Korean-actor was cast, maybe to have a wider audience? The English he and Michelle spoke was not bad, but it wasn't too good either. Which wouldn't have bothered me at all except that they talked in whispers! I had to come closer to the screen to understand at least half of it... and they were supposed to talk in English every day or so... ha!

I loved the contest they have at school, it is one of my favorite plot to watch in a live-action. Kinda like HanaKimi, where there are several groups that compete against each other, in the silliest games! My favorite part of the movie! My least favorite: everything that was about Michelle and her brother. What a pain, it dragged so much sometimes. I wanted more Host Club, more Tamaki-Haruhi, not more about a girl with the most terrible hair (seriously, how could she comb that tangled mess??) and with a brother complex.

What a disappointment. I've read so many reviews about this; I was sure I was going to laugh the entire time or so, but no. I may not have laughed not even once. Ok I am lying, I did laugh when my dear Abe Hiroshi tap-danced. Or I may have smiled all the times he spoke. And ok, I laughed a little bit with the taxi driver. But that's it. To me, the movie was super slow, the ghost did not make any sense, wasn't helpful at all. It was like "case? what case?". It wasn't so much about the crime; hello, the real murderer was all happy and free until the last 10 minutes or so; it was like no one bothered to find out who the murder was.

This is my first movie by Mitani Koki; I really thought he was my kind of director. I've read so many excellent reviews about his movies, about how funny they are and all the cameos it has. And that's it. That may be the "best" thing about this movie; all the popular (and good) actors there are. The most memorable, besides Abe-san, could be Fumihata-san, who is everywhere. And the taxi-driver. The rest, MEH. I was disappointed that Kusanagi did not have any lines (he blows the harmonica, and that's it, that's his role. MEH).

Botchan (Kazunari Ninomiya) has sense of strong justice and does not lie. He is offered a teaching job at a middle in a small village far away from his hometown of Tokyo. Botchan accepts the position and begins to work as a math teacher. The assistant principle there wields absolute power. Botchan has a hard time dealing with his fellow teachers and the students. (asianwiki)

Bocchan-p01

This was a good adaptation from the book, and Nino certainly "looked" like Botchan. Of course they cut off some parts (what I remember, for example, is when Botchan and the Math Teacher spied on Red Shirt), and the character of Madonna was more elaborated. We get to hear Botchan's thoughts at some parts, specially at the beginning, but I missed his voice when it came to the English Teacher. Because I laughed many times with all his thoughts about him.

I like the setting, I did not know it was on Meiji era, I wanted to face-palm. Overall the actors were good (I wish the Assistant was more annoying but it could be that I like the actor so much I couldn't see him as an annoying guy). And just like in the book, it ended "eh?".

Bakuman-p3

I waited so much to see this movie. I think I have never waited so much for a movie before. When the cast was announced I was excited. I thought, and still did while watching it, that Takeru should have been Shuujin, and Ryunosuke should have been Saiko, but nevertheless, it was a good movie. The pace was well done, the special effects were very good as well. There isn't a single slow moment in the movie. All actors were spotted on. And the setting! The department looked exactly the same, the clothes were exactly the same. To see the real Shounen Jump building and offices (at least, I think they were the real locations) was as exciting as it was impressive. All those papers.. thousands and thousands of it. All those mangas!

Speaking about mangas, I was so satisfied to see that the manga used in the movie were done by the same mangaka that did BAKUMAN. His style is unique; any fan of his can recognize his work. And to see works like Otter in real life! Otter is a manga written by Hiramaru in Bakuman, and I always wanted to read it, even if it doesn't exist really.

So, the cast. There was a good chemistry between the lead actors, which didn't surprise me since I know they have worked together before. I liked that they could shake hands -or whatever you called that- only when they get serialized. It was a good point. I like that the "love story" with Miho wasn't as pathetic as in the manga/anime. In fact, they talk several times, over the phone and face to face, and it wasn't awkward, just 2 teenagers getting to know each other. She even sends him a photo of her! Something that lame Miho in anime/manga wouldn't have done. I think the scriptwriter or the director disagreed with the portrayal of the main female character in the manga/anime (it was sexist, let's be honest), so they made her less pathetic and less "I wanna be a seijuu to marry you".

Kiritani Kenta as Fukada-san was SPOT ON! He was excellent, he does this kind of character so well! The one who is rebellious and kind of a gangster but with a big heart. By far my favorite. I love his outfits, his expressions, and I am glad his role wasn't tiny. But well, all members of Fukada-team were good: Hinamaru had his moments of depression that did not fail to make me laugh, Nakai-san was there with his big belly helping his friends... True, no Aiko in the story, but it was understandable. Not all characters could be in a 2-hour-movie.

Yamada Takayuki was, I guess, a mix between the 2 editors the boys have, because he certainly wasn't confident Hattori-san. He even wears glasses and has long hair (again, not Hattori-san), and he is smaller than the boys, unlike Hattori-san. If I didn't have to compare, I'll say he was good, but nothing outstanding.

So, what was my main concern: Nizuma Eiji, who is one of my favorite characters, besides having an unique personality. Was Sometani Shouta exactly like Eiji is supposed to be? No. He wasn't as loud, as crazy, and with such weird and funny expressions and movements as Eiji. Was I disappointed? Well, not exactly. To be honest, Eiji is not a character that can be portrayed faithfully in real life, so what Sometani did was good. He did his role well, he did his research: he walked funnily, slouching, just like Eiji. He has a goody smile, like Eiji. When he has a -metaphoric- battle against Ashirogi-sensei (which was never used in the movie, btw... they go by their names, no pen-names there), he has the wings and when he is jumping, he does an Eiji-pose. Just with that I am grateful.

In the manga/anime, the guys form some kind of alliance when they encounter problems with their editorial. It begins when Saiko is in the hospital and the director forbids him to keep drawing while he is sick. All the other mangaka (Nakai-san, Aiko, Fukada-san, Eiji) support Ashirogi-sensei. Unfortunately, due lack of time, that alliance could not be done as in the manga/anime. Instead, the guys help Saiko to finish his work. I liked that, that we could see it, how the guys, although rivals, are all friends. And although Eiji did not help him in drawing (it would have been very OoC) he helps in another way. Very well done, scriptwriter!

I liked the end, that things remain not-finished: Saiko and his relationship with Miho; their career as mangaka... I liked that they have this brainstorming of ideas with a blackboard, because for us fans, it was meaningful. We know what other mangas there will be, so this was like a "to be continued..."

For fans of the manga/anime, and for people interested in how the mangaka work, this movie is highly recommended. I am very happy to say that I wasn't disappointed and that I highly liked it.

Intense pressure mounts on both sides as both men must use their power of persuasion and presentation to sway the judge.

I am not familiar with the game (but I wish!) nor I have seen the anime (yet), but I enjoyed the movie. I think it is always easy to enjoy a law/mystery story. Of course, it has to be well narrated, and this was. I may have been a little bit lost at the beginning -the first case- but quickly enough I caught up with the flow.

My reason to watch it was, yes again, Takumi-kun. My crush is still on. He was so serious in this movie, he smiles only once. His hair was more ridiculous than the attorney, but nevertheless, he was so handsome <3 Narimiya too, and his acting was good. Too bad I can't say the same about Kiritani Mirei, but well, I don't like her that much to be honest.

There are a few familiar faces, all in funny outfits and ridiculous hairdos. The special effects were good and eye-catching. The mystery involved a couple of cases together, and tbh I did not see it coming who was the culprit. I liked the movie and I will watch the musical as well (it is on YT). I wish I could play the game, I am very curious now, but also ignorant in that field :(

Kanna (Mana Ashida) attends kindergarten in central Tokyo. Her friend was been absent in school for several days. Worried about her friend, Kanna gathers fellow classmates Hiroshitake Taniguchi (Tomoya Hashimoto), Takujitsu Uehara (Ruiki Sato), Kotomi Mochida (Miyu Honda) and Shunyuu Horikawa (Hiroyuki Kuroda) and they take a trip to out to Takao Station in western Tokyo hoping to find their friend. A pact is made before they sneak out of school that no matter what happens they won't cry ... (asianwiki)

I don't think there is a single dragging moment in the whole movie, and most of it was because of the cast. No need to add that little Mana-chan is a wonderful actress, but the other kids were wonderful as well. Like Miyu-chan, who I found adorable when she guested in Shabekuri 007. Or the little boy who cried so well. Or the sick boy who looked like a young Daniel Radcliffe (seriously, he needed a pair of glasses and could have been easily a Harry Potter). Matsushima Hikari, who played one of the teacher, had a tiny role and one I could not fully comprehend. She is supposed to be in her last days as a teacher, and while she is having a smoke and lazing around is when the children run away. I like this actress so much it was like watching an old friend. Her voice, her slim fingers, her calm voice... I wanted to cry just seeing her. She pulls that out of me.

The promise of not crying on their journey is not accomplished, but the children were so good at crying I was almost happy they couldn't keep their promises. It was impossible not to cry a little bit at the end. So while it is a entertaining movie, warm and human, the end was good precisely because of that bitter-sweetness.

After Noboru saves Hayase from drowning by giving him mouth-to-mouth, Hayase grows confused about his feelings. It doesn't help that around the same time he meets Noboru's twin brother Ryu who has a very different, outgoing personality. (asianwiki)

Itsuka_no_kimi_e

I am currently having a major tiny crush on Saito Takumi, reason why I watched this movie. Yes I love yaoi as well, but currently (with the Takumi series) I have bad experiences with this kind of movie so, in spite of having half dozen sitting in my computer, waiting to be watched, I am procrastinating. My reasons for not watching anymore yaoi movies (although there is one that I loved, so it is not only negative experience) are: terrible hairdos (TERRIBLE); bad acting (ergo, no chemistry) and just mediocre stories in general. Typical yaoi. So yeah, I used to love yaoi but lately I am amazed at the bad plots.

Anyway, this movie isn't really yaoi. Yes, there is a kiss at the end of the movie, but it felt more like a friendly-kiss-in-the-mouth. In general, it was more about the new friendship between Hayase and Noboru (and Ryu?). Bromance, if you want to label it. There wasn't really any sexual tension. As far as I can tell, there wasn't any romantic feelings. It is mostly about Hayase meeting a new friend in Ryu and being curious about Noboru. As for Noboru, is about his history with his twin brother, his bond with him and at the same time, his love-hate relationship with him.

Not a bad movie, per se, I just didn't get the reason why it was done. It was so normal. Although Takumi looked really good here. Except maybe for the hair. Since I have a mediocre copy, and with that hairstyle, it was like I was watching Bakanishi. Seriously, same hairdo (in his SIGNAL time... or Yorokobi no Uta...). It was maddening. There I was, anxious to see pretty Takumi-kun and no, sometimes I was watching stupid Bakanishi. Ugh.

For yaoi fans (who want to see an interesting plot instead of a ridiculous one; a handsome guy instead of awkward "romantic" scenes) I can say that it is ok. Besides, it is 67minutes long. Super short.

Sakurai (Masato Sakai) is an aspiring actor who becomes frustrated with his life. Sakurai then decides to kill himself, but before committing suicide Sakurai heads off to a public bathhouse. At the bathhouse, Sakurai then witnesses a man named Kondo (Teruyuki Kagawa) collapse and lose his memory in front of Sakurai. On a sudden whim, Sakurai switches locker keys with Kondo and pretends to be Kondo. Sakurai soon finds himself in trouble with the yakuza ...

I may be one of the few people (according to all the reviews and articles I've read) that did not like this movie so much. I was expecting more: more laughs, more action, more silliness, etc. And well, look at the cast! Sakai-san, Kagawa-san, Hirosue-san (and oh, that super funny guy, Arakawa-san!). But all in all, the movie was slow and did not live up my expectations.

I really thought that Sakai Masato would play more like a tough yakuza, but he barely had to pretend. He barely had any dangerous adventure. Kagawa Teruyuki was really good, especially since he has the face of a mean yakuza but once he loses his memories, he is supposed to be a normal guy trying to find work in the entertainment business. I really wanted the story to be more focused on Sakai trying to pretend to be a tough guy, and Kagawa trying hard to be a nice guy.

The end was very funny and ridiculous, and in fact, that was the only time I've laughed. I wish the entire movie were as ridiculous and funny as that ending. Unfortunately, the movie was just normal. Very normal.

In ancient Rome, architect Lucius (Hiroshi Abe) is too rigid in his ways and unable to keep up with the fast changing times. Because of this, Lucius loses his job. A friend then takes Lucius to a bath house to cheer him up. There at the bath house, Lucius slips through a time portal and arrives at a bath house in present day Japan!

Thermae_Romae-P1

I always thought I would love everything Abe Hiroshi stars in, but I was wrong. I am so sorry Abe-san! I admire you, I adore you, you are the best, but this wasn't your best movie. I am not sure if it was a comedy or a drama or what. Yes, it has elements of comedy, but they weren't so funny. The first time he travels in time to modern Japan, it was fine. And wow, his body... he is mostly naked or semi-naked in the whole movie, so that is a big plus! He has an amazing body, and with his height... **swoon**.

But he comes and goes, comes and goes, and the repetitiveness of him being amazed at everything that relates to modern bath loses it touch, the fun. Since I am going to Japan, I found them very interesting, but that was it. The actors were good: for once Ueto Aya played a good, goofy mangaka with a nice sense of fashion. She did not try to be cute, like she always does (ok, not always since I've seen her in just a couple of movies/doramas yet. But what I saw she is always like that). Kitamura Kazuki (Keioniusu) is better suit for this kind of role: arrogant, evil, etc, instead of the goofy one (he overacts too much while trying to look nice). I don't have any complains about the actor who played Hadrian... he never overeacts, and all the roles that I've seen him played before suit him perfectly... He can be the bad guy, the good guy, the yakuza guy, and well, even an Italian emperor.

The locations, beautiful. All green and vast, just like I like them. But to be honest, the story... it was like sometimes it was more of a parody than a... comedrama? dramacomedy? The soundtrack was all Italian songs, operas more than anything. When Lucius, or the old men, were swallowed by the water, it was obvious they were dolls (Ken dolls, most likely). Instead of an onsen or a bath, it was obvious it was some kind of bowl.

Overall, some scenes + the soundtrack + the soprano seemed a parody. Cast and locations, beautiful. Abe Hiroshi: so manly and so talented. Story, MEH.

In the year 1716 a mysterious epidemic stickens men in the country of Japan, dropping the population of men to 1/4th of its prior state. With the drastic reduction of men, the gender roles have become reversed in Japan. Woman become the dominant members of society and males are sought out for the ability to produce children.

A young man named Unoshin Mizuno (Kazunari Ninomiya) hopes to marry childhood sweetheart Onobu (Maki Horikita), but due to class differences realizes this is almost impossible. To raise his social status and also save his poor family, Unoshin Mizuno enters the Ohoku (inner chambers of the Shugun's castle) and attempts to vie among 3,000 other men for the affection of the female shogun. What Unoshin Mizuno quickly learns about the Ohoku is that the men there are all beautiful, but highly ambitious and conniving. In this environment, the 7th shogun Tokugawa passes away and the new shogun Yoshimune Tokugawa (Kou Shibasaki) takes the thrown and enters the Ohoku ...

Ohoku-p2

This movie was really well done, very loyal to the manga (except for the ending). Amazing, but the whole movie is the first volume of the manga, only. I did not notice the manga was so long. So not only it is exactly like the manga, but the locations of the movie were beautiful! The castle, the town, the inner chambers... all so vast and clean and with so much light.

The cast... wow, amazing cast. Nino was good as Mizuno, but I wish he was taller. And maybe more handsome (the story is like that, it is not like I am shallow, but Mizuno needs to be, besides one of the prettiest boys, a strong one, a tall one, an agil one). At least he was very good at fighting. His little feet... <3 so cute. But those sex scenes (nothing explicit, just Nino, err, moving atop of an old lady) reminded me of that article that told that Nino is a sex-beast. Hahaha, impossible not to think about it.

This is the first time I see Shibasaki Kou, the Shogun Lady, and my first impression was, wow, she looks like Nakatani Miki. So lady-like, so imposing. She has a bit of a funny face due her mouth, but all in all, she is very beautiful (those eyes!). She doesn't make an appearance in front of her men until 1 hour and 10 minutes have passed.

All the other characters are actors I love. I can't complain, although, among the most beautiful men, there was one that I think is THE most beautiful, but if you blink, you miss him. He is my beautiful Saito Syuuske. Oh well, Ohkura looks nice, although a bit too feminine, and Tamaki looks handsome as well.

HoriMaki was cute and OK (although as stiff as ever when she has to kiss someone!), Sadai Abe is always good in no matter what role (funny, silly or serious) and wow, Nakamura Aoi, that boy from "BECK" got a kiss in the lips from Nino! Exaclty like in the manga, I am glad they did not exclude that scene merely for that fact. Terrible what these guys have to deal with: Ohkura, being of a lower rank, was the lover of Tamaki (higher rank). But Tamaki again has a lower rank of Matsushima, so he was, again, the lover of another guy.

That is my complain about the story (not the movie). Since the country was dealing with the death of men due the Redface pox, and there was 1 man for every 4 women, why in the world were 800 men inside the castle, while outside the few men left had to sell their bodies to give the women their seed? Why in the world would the Shogun need 800 men, if she could get pregnant just once in a while? Why in the world were men working as maids, and, having to be locked from the outside world, seek physical pleasure with other men, while outside there were hundreds of women needing a man? It was an issue that the same Mizuno questioned... men sleeping with other men and wasting their seed.

All in all, it was a great movie, great costume (but truly, the outfit the men had to wear, and the Shogun, for that matter, was completely ridiculous.. they could barely walk!), great cast... The (my) only problem was the story. At least it ended well (although unlikely).

As children, the introverted Smile was being bullied by a gang of kids until the brash Peco comes by and chases all of them them away. Peco then takes Smile under his wings and teaches him how to play the game of ping pong. From there a life long best friend relationship comes into existence between these two polar opposite kids.

Fast forward a decade later, Smile and Peco are now about to compete in a high stakes regional ping pong tournament. While Peco has always wanted to be the best ping pong player in the world, he has never had the drive to fully devote himself to the game. Rather than finding him practicing in the high school gym you would more often than not find Peco hustling other kids out of money at the local ping pong parlor. This is in contrast with Smile, who has the god given talents to actually become the world’s best ping pong player, but is to humble to destroy his opponents. More often than not he allows his opponents to win points and even entire games out of sympathy for them.

Now these two best friends try to deal with their own inner turmoils, as they move further and further into the regional ping pong tournament. Peco has to overcome a knee injury while trying to rediscover the fun aspects of the game of Ping Pong. Meanwhile, Smile now seems to have gained the killer instinct by going through a rigorous training regiment instilled by his high school coach. As the tournament progresses it becomes more likely that these two best friends will face off against each in the final match.

DVD-PingPong-Cover

Not really in the mood to write a review, but I'll say that this movie was exactly what I was looking for. Friendship, coming of age, sportsmanship... All the scenes were they were playing ping pong were very exciting, good shots and the music helped.

Peco has the most ridiculous hairstyle but he was full of life and I liked that. Very different from his BFF Smile. There was a mini-reunion of Ichi. In fact, I was surprised at the cast and cameos... there are a lot of familiar faces, starting with our favorite sensei, Takenaka Naoto (Nodame Cantabile, Swing Girls). Daigo's father, from Sentai Kyoryuger has also a small role. And the biggest surprise, at the end (I had to google it when I finished the movie, just to be sure), is also a little Sometani Shota! He must have been like 5 or so, so tiny and cute, but he did not say a word.

The movie is bilingual, since one of the main rivals is Chinese and he only talks in Chinese.

It does not feel like it is old, it has a very contemporary feeling. And it is not a long movie; so the pace did not feel slow nor rushed. Very well narrated. I am very interested in ping pong since I saw in several TV variety shows (like in V6 Gakuen) how the students are trained and how the schools invest so much in it. It is a very fast, interesting sport (I have never played it in all my life).

In order to get rid of widespread doomsday fears in a small town, two residents from there asks magician Naoko (Yukie Nakama) to come to their town as a goddess. When Naoko arrives in the town she sees an a handful of other pseudo gods. Mysterious phenomenons occur in sequence.

Naoko and physicist Jiro (Hiroshi Abe) become fooled by those others. In addition, Detective Kenzo (Katsuhisa Namase) and Naoko's mother Satomi (Yoko Nogiwa) become involved. Their situation goes in an unexpected direction.

Trickthemovie

Plot wise, it was a bit all over the place. It left me with more questions than answers. Why did they hire Yamada? Why was the need to murder Ueda's friend? Why murder all these people? Why sacrificing themselves at the end? Etc, etc.

Ueda remains Yamada's biggest fan. I love how enthusiastic he is every time she performs. He is cute and funny <3 Although at the end of the meeting where he invited her to come and perform, he, like the big coward he is, denies any relationship with her and let the other mock her. Poor Yamada, she was so hurt she cried ^_^

But Ueda redeems himself at the island; he is always supporting Yamada and she lays her safety in his hands. We get the old jokes again, the sexual ones XD. There is a message that Yamada misunderstands, and I loved how at the end Ueda tries to get what could she have possibly read, but she is always interrupting him, since she is very embarrassed <3 I love these two, how they care for each other but that no one is going to give the first step <3

Stresseman Takenata Naoto has a small role, very small, I was impressed. I looked at his list of movies, and oh my! He has done thousands of movies. He is truly every where.

Riko Narumi has a small role as well, but not as Yamada as a child, which was strange. No, she has a role as the hidden daughter of a couple and possible Goddess of the Turtle. Seems like the Director truly liked her, since she is always portraying Yamada as a child, but if she is not, she still has a role in the movie.

It did not feel like a movie, but more like a long episode of the dorama.
