I am happily surprised by this drama because I loved it and may be my favorite Jdrama of 2021. I wasn't planning on watching it, except it got quietly popular and reading some comments I became interested.

This kind of BL is right up to my taste since it is the kind of plot I do love to read in books. More specifically, this drama reminded me a lot of the Straight series, a MM romance series where almost always the leads are so f**ked up and may need therapy but you can't help but root for them because of their intense chemistry and lusty romance. They are flawed characters and I love it; I realized this year that I do like my leads to be imperfect, but still perfect for each other.

Is their relationship toxic? Depends of every person but to me it wasn't. It is not like their dynamic made them unhappy; they do have a miscommunication (they are teenagers after all) but once they lay out all their feelings *coughkiyoionhiracough* they are on the same page. And about the "kimoi" thing... I love it. I love when in my MM romance books the term of endearment is "jackass", "asshole", etc precisely because it is said with love and endearment, not as a way of abuse.  I certainly cringe when the term of endearment is "baby", "honey", etc **cringe** Again, it depends on anyone's taste.

Some people were offended by the gun imagination thing... it made me laugh when I watched it 😅 who doesn't have a violent imagination once in a while? As long as it doesn't get real it's fine, no need to be so prude.

The acting was excellent, both were amazing and had a nice chemistry. So nice I didn't have any 2nd hand embarrassment with scenes like the finger sucking... it was actually pretty hot and kinda sweet. The only time I had 2nd hand embarrassment was at the shower scene in the school yard...it was too long 😅 Even if it were a straight couple I would have felt the same.

I also like the OST, both OP song & ED song.

My only complain? Too short, but on the other hand the drama was mostly about them and very little about others. Just like the Straight book series 😅

So nice to see the whole gang again, 4 YEARS LATER! And they all barely changed! Except for Gakky, who looks too gaunt to me... her cheeks :(

Again this drama is ahead of its society, since it talks about single motherhood; being single for life and being scary of dying alone; homosexuality; that both parents need to be part of raising the child, not just the mother; adopting the last name of the spouse; work harassment, work view regarding pregnancy and parenting-leave; etc, etc.

I am sad that Yuki didn't find her HEA with Kazami, AND that she has cancer (poor woman!) but she is relatable so much! And one of my fave characters.

It also deals with the COVID19 and being a new parent in this time and all that :(

While still a virgin at 30, Adachi Kiyoshi gains a magical power – the ability to read other people's minds by touching them. At first, he’s overwhelmed by his new ability, and it’s not proving to be helpful to him.

But that all changes when he accidentally touches Kurosawa Yuichi, whom he learns has romantic feelings for him. (MDL-2020)

QBYo7_4f

I loved it, love it and will love it. My 2nd favorite drama of the year (after WataNagi). Pure, funny, cute, romantic, what is not to love?? My standard for romance in general is ruined. I am not even talking about Gay Romance... I mean Romance in general.

I watched each episode at least thrice (actually, only ep11... all the others I watched them at least a dozen of times). Sure it is short and it made me want for more, specially since I started in Week 2 and to wait for the next episode was a torture (didn't help that each episode ended in a cliffhanger! a genius move from the director/staff).

When I've read there was going to be a drama, it made me curious since I knew Machida Keita and I've only seen him in delinquent-type roles. And the cover looked so awkward! Perfect for a romance. At first I thought Akaso Eiji was too good-looking to play Adachi, but he did it so well and convincing (his innocence, his clumsiness, his "mousiness", making himself look small and cute) I was sold by the end of ep1.

Keita was perfect as Kurosawa, but it took me till ep02 to noticed it, unlike with Eiji. The pinning in his eyes was sooo good! He made me fall for him, so much I watched other dramas of him (and of Eiji, while waiting for the next episode); Keita is a real charmer and very good looking too. And the chemistry between him and Eiji **chef's kiss**. I could see him (Keita the actor) being a a real tease to Eiji behind the scenes.

In spite of watching all episodes several times, each time I watch it, I giggle like the first time. It is so funny and cute! Of course there are moments of 2nd hand embarrassment as well... like in ep03 in the rooftop... Adachi's face while Kurosawa was grabbing his neck **covers eyes** OMG I still cannot watch that part with a straight face. Or Kurosawa's thoughts of their first date *blushing** I didn't care about all the cliches, they were all done so cutely and sincerely I love each one of them.

The secondary characters were all charming and loveable; most of all, Fujisaki (Sato Ryo) and Rokkaku (Kusakawa Takuya). Real golden-hearted! And totally opposite one from the other. I also liked Tsuge (Akasa Kodai); a true friend and also very funny. Too bad most watched didn't like him; but I see that the haters are all J-dramas non-watchers so it can be also because of ignorance only. His acting is very Japanese-like and also one of the charms of Jdrama.

The OST! The angel-choir **chef's kiss** so funny... it made each imagination even funnier. The OP song is lovely and suits the drama perfectly. The ED song is nice as well, but I liked the OP more. I skipped the ED sequence several times tbh.

Only 2 things I was not a fan of: 1) of the actor who played Minato. His make-up and wig... and he looks like a teenager, and the reason why many hated poor Tsuge. Not his fault that Minato looked like a kid! There was only a 6-year-age difference between them in real life, but most complains were about Tsuge being a creep because he liked a "kid"... a "kid" of 22 years old **facepalm. And 2) while I am happy that this beautiful drama got recognition internationally, it was also a confirmation that it is better if Jdrama get their recognition locally only. Jfans -and yours truly- were super happy and satisfied with the ending. It suited the tone of the story: pure and all fade to black. I didn't need to see skinship and naked bodies to be convinced that both of them were on love; their actions, words, and eyes speak for themselves. But intl fans complained rudely about this, sending hate messages to the director, the mangaka, etc; even pointing fingers at Keita that his company didn't allow kisses between them; or that the actors themselves decided this. Really?? And that the show is "homophobic"... really?? Toxic mentality.

Now that is done, I am in a drama slump. I keep re-watching the episodes and reading reviews.. I missed them so much! And not even a week from the ending :(

Life_as_a_Girl-p01

Not what I expected, in a good way. I was expecting more angst and more melodrama, but it wasn't. Of course there are a couple of people that say nasty stuff to Miki, but this drama doesn't show her most difficult life... only her life. Ups and downs. And thank God the ups are more than the downs, she is not alone, has several friends and coworkers who love her and accept her. Even in her flashbacks her job interview wasn't that hard and her boss is nice.

The most difficult for her maybe, 1) her family, but luckily her father accept her at the end and since they were mostly estranged, we only see the reconciliation; and 2) her love life, since there isn't any. Yes, she has hook-ups (it seems it is easier for her to approach girls as a girl) but seems like girls only see her as a one-night stand or adventure, nothing serious. Now THAT is depressing.

Still, she has her friends who are always there for her, and her new friend and old classmate, Goto, who is just a sweetheart and the kind of character I love to see in a drama. A bit naive, understanding, supportive, ignorant at first, yes, but never condescending nor making any judgements. I do like seeing Machida Keita in this kind of role, it suits him and makes him more endearing.

As for Shison Jun, I may have not liked him at first for petty reasons, but I admit he is a good actor. He is good in comedy and in drama. His legs and lips certainly look a bit feminine so this role suited him. He wasn't too feminine, he was respectful in his role, and also portrayed a brave, strong trans but with a certain vulnerability.

His love interest was my sweet girl Koshiba Fuka, who is a little bitchy girl who just likes to have fun with Miki while cheating on her bf. Yep, not the kind of role I am used to see her so at first I was like, eehhh, this is TOTALLY different from what I expected, but besides her character, the story was nice and not heavy.

Objectively it is a very good Jdrama with good messages and very realistic. Subjectively, I hated the first 4 episodes but loved the last 4. Very mixed feelings... I was so uncomfortable in the first 4 episodes I almost drop it. I didn't, but I did watch them in a fast-forward pace.

There are many trigger warnings, such as bullying, forced outing of the closet, cheating, suicide, attempting suicide, etc. The acting was marvelous; I am a big fan of Kaneko Daichi since I first saw him in "Ashita no Yakusoku"; the boy can act and he is also an ikemen, so I have no idea why he isn't more popular. He even looks like Miura Haruma somewhat. His career so far has been a puzzle to me: from a school student in AnY to a salaryman in Ossan's Love to a school student again here. He doesn't shine in Comedies as he does in Dramas though. As for Fujino Ryoko (Miura-san), she was the real star for me in this drama. I rooted for her since she smiled for the first time. A very talented girl, how she isn't more popular?? A fantastic actress.

So since Miura Sae was the real MVP for me, and once she started to fall for Ando, it was hard to see they wouldn't go anywhere. It pained me when he accepted to be her boyfriend, trying to be "normal" and hiding his true self. But that wasn't my real problem with this drama... my main problem was that Ando was secretly having an affair with a married man.

Now, in this case I am not upset about the affair... the married guy is also gay but hides it from the world. I loved when he explained it at the end that, even if he was gay, he loved his wife. Gay men married to women can really love them (they make an example of Freddie Mercury and Mary), not just sexually, and it was the case for this married guy, only that he also loved men. So yes, the cheating part was understandable. But what made me so uncomfortable and disgusted was that Ando was, what, 17 years old? And his lover was like 40 🤢

Sae is a fujoshi, meaning, a big fan of yaoi, which I can understand. However, it made me very uncomfortable how these girls loved to sexualize pretty guys, or just put them in very awkward scenes. I am always disgusted when fujoshi goes "is he a seme or an uke?"... isn't that offensive?? Or when the girls were trying to make their boyfriends recreate yaoi scenes... awful.

So taking aside the whole statutory rape + Ando lying to poor Sae + the sexualizing thing, this story broke my heart many times. The OST of Queen didn't help either.. every time I listen to Freddie's voice it makes me want to weep. The messages this drama carry were meaningful and painful and real. Most of the hurt Ando gets is from his ignorant classmates or mother, and also his self-hate. Luckily he was 2 amazing friends like Sae and Ryohei.

The first half was like a 5/10 but the 2nd half was 9/10. Awww the feelings... 5+9=14 /2 = 7stars

Shiro Kakei (Hidetoshi Nishijima) is an attorney and he works for a small law firm. He lives with his lover Kenji Yabuki (Seiyo Uchino) who is a hairdresser. The two men are gay.

Shiro Kakei's regular routine is that after work he buys groceries at a mart which has discounted prices. He has a monthly budget of 25,000 yen ($225) for food that he does not go over. Afterwards, he goes home and makes dinner which usually includes rice, soup and three side dishes. When dinner is about ready, Kenji Yabuki comes home from work. While they eat, the two men talk about pretty much everything. Their time during dinner is a precious time for them.

One day, when Shiro Kakei and Kenji Yabuki are out in public, Kenji Yabuki's customer comes up to them and asks "Is he your boyfriend who is a lawyer?" Shiro Kakei is embarrassed. He did not tell people at his law firm that he is gay, unlike Kenji Yabuki who is open about his sexual orientation. Shiro Kakei feels uncomfortable. (asiawiki-2019)

Kinou_Nani_Tabeta-01

I liked this more than I thought I would, and that's a lot since I had very high expectations for this drama before it started. It is a very simple and heartwarming drama that is far more enjoyable in live action than in manga (for me at least). I do enjoy gourmet manga, but I think watching the food ao vivo is much better than watching it on paper.

As for the story, it doesn't have much drama except for Shiro-san being a closeted gay guy in his work place, while Kenji is very open about who he is. At first I liked Kenji much more than Shiro; he is carefree and loves Shiro so much, while Shiro is more uptight and doesn't show much his feelings. I though that was particulary because Nishijima Hidetoshi is more of a "tough actor" who is more used to look cool and cold, but there is a big character development with him and at the end, I loved him almost as much as I loved Kenji.

There were scenes that were comforting, as well as funny scenes and poignant scenes. I think my favorites were the last 4 or so, where it shows the character development, and I enjoyed all scenes between Kenji-Shiro and Kohinata-Gilbert.

For me this is far, far better than Ossan's Love, and more realistic as well. Besides, the addition of the cooking and recipes were very useful.. I am now dying to try the "mentsuyu". While it is based on a gourmet manga, the cooking takes around 2 minutes and the joy on eating around 3, and the rest is all story development.

I am so glad this was loved by the audience, and I am also very glad that Uchino Seiyo and Nishijima enjoyed working on this drama :)

The OP sequence is very, very cute, and the song was lovely.

Yaichi (Ryuta Sato) is a single father and he raises his elementary school aged daughter alone. One day, a foreign man named Mike (Baruto Kaito) visits him.

My_Brother's_Husband-p01

I loved it. Only 3 episodes long, perfect length, perfect cast, perfect everything.

To think I once didn't like Sato Ryuta *face-palm* and I blame it on the roles he played (the idiotic but kind secondary guy). He was excellent as the MC in this drama, I love how he goes from a judgemental, ignorant guy to a understanding friend. His twin brother, Ryoji, was gay, he died and his Canadian husband comes to Japan to meet his brother-in-law Yaichi and all the places Ryoji loved.

I confess I usually don't like the foreign actors in J-dramas since it seems like anyone who is foreign but speaks a little of Japanese can be an actor; meaning, terrible acting. But Baruto, as Mike Flanaga, was perfect, he portrayed perfectly the gentle giant (he is gigantic! I remember how Nakai loved to pat his belly in SMAP Bistro XD)

This is a very realistic slice of life, where there would be ignorant people who rejects homosexuality or just refuse to accept it. At the beginning, Yaichi was all "would be make a move on me?", or just calling him "my brother's friend" or not liking Mike near his daughter. Slowly, he begins to see that Mike was a nice guy who just happened to love men. Mike was never ashamed of who he was, and he taught his niece and his niece's friends that men can love men (and marry them) and same with girls. And the little girls were confused at first, but they quickly were "if you love someone, is wonderful you can marry that person, even if the both of you are guys" :D

I smiled, I cried, I loved it! Very recommended. I will read the manga as well (the author was in my "banned" list but this one is very different from what I thought)

I don't know if I can call this a Romance per se, since I am not sure of Sensei's feelings. However, I can assure that this was a very, very well done MM drama, that their chemistry was off the charts, and that it has many erotic scenes. I certainly like the student a lot, and his wild imagination XD The student was cute and pure, and Sensei was super sexy O_O my, their first kiss was amazing! Left me "doki-doki". The actors were superb.

While every episode has a super hot scene, the one I liked the most (besides their kiss) was when Kuzumi was giving the Sensei a massage in his wrist. Not only it was very sexy, but also funny (Sensei's moans had me laughing).

As someone who has read the manga and didn't like it so much, I loved this drama. I am OK with the final episode, but an extra episode would be very welcome. I didn't read the prequel manga, between Sensei and his editor.. I don't see the point of reading every past lover of one of the MC, so his scenes with the editor were MEH for me.

Not for a younger audience. It was pretty much a soft porn XD

If it wasn't because of one subber that commented how good the drama was, I wouldn't have picked this SP. And I am so glad I did. This was a fun, and surprisingly, very sweet story. I was giggling the whole time. How uncomfortable for Haruta to have his boss in love with him. How uncomfortable to have 2 guys in love with him, while he is straight as an arrow (is he?).

I love that Haruta likes both guys, not romantically, but as individuals. He admires his boss and he considers his roommate as his best friend. I love how different both kind of love are: one loves Haruta because of his good traits; the other loves Haruta IN SPITE of his bad traits. One is respectfully rejected; the other is cruelly rejected.

Haruta has a female friend who is awesome. She likes to tease Haruta because of their boss being in love with him XD

I am sad that Hase's actor is not the same in the drama, because I found him very cute.

The ending was SO CUTE. I am still smiling remembering this lovely SP.

We_Married_as_Job-p1

I'll always look at this dorama with nostalgia. It was broadcasted when I visited Japan in October, and pictures of the show + Hoshino Gen's album were everywhere ^_^

This was such a nice, heartwarming dorama. I am not sure it is one of my favorites, but I honestly cannot say anything bad about it. 11 episodes just flew by.

Cast. I loved Hiramasa-san, he is the epitome of what I consider Japanese men to be. Quiet, well educated, cold-looking, awkward, hardworking, no interest in woman or having a relationship. Main interest is living a quiet, comfortable life. All of these changes once he makes a marriage contract with Mikuri-san. I like how their relationship evolved. We may not have seen much skinship and lovey-dovey things between them, but that was precisely the charm. Mikuri has to do all the work but with patience. A man like Hiramasa-san would be scared off otherwise, ha! I like how she came up with little things (like Tuesday's hugs) to be closer to each other. And just when you thought this Hiramasa was just too slow and wouldn't do anything to take things further, he surprises us with a kiss! (ok, I was not surprised since I was spoiled on Tumblr... and because when that kiss happened, the kiss in YOI also happened. Ha!)

I am not really a super fan of Gakki, but she had a wonderful character in this dorama. It was impossible not to cheer for her, not to root for her. It was lovely how she falls for this little guy (this is not a lie... Hoshino Gen is truly little!). I love her imagination and how the dorama shows us how her mind works! The little scenes of her imagination were always funny to watch.

The other characters were all likeable. In the past, I used to be not a fan of relationship between a much older woman and a much younger man. But in this case, it wasn't possible to not root for Yuri-san and the Ikemen-guy. Yuri-san is such a beautiful woman! I couldn't believe she was 49 years old, so I had to look it up. I am surprised to say that she is 47! She looks like 40 or less, even if you can see her wrinkles, which makes her even more pretty, because she is all natural! The age gap is not that much in real life (it is 11 instead of 17 years), and Kazami was a lucky guy to have her at the end. I love her point of view regarding marriage and being single, and I teared up a little bit the time she cried.

Story. As mentioned before, I was very interested in this story because Hiramasa-san represents male youth nowadays. But it is not only that, the dorama also focuses on work and being a housewife, and being a new-mother who has a husband who has an affair (and prefers divorce instead of accepting said affair... as far as I know, because of what I have read, Japanese women prefer to ignore the affairs of their husbands), and there is also romantic relationship between an older woman with a younger man, and a bit about homosexuality and the pressure of a Japanese person to come back to Japan after having lived outside for so long. I mean, although this was a romantic comedy (more comedy than romantic, and to emphasize this, I have to say I laughed out loud in almost every episode), there were also many serious and contemporary issues. The main issue may be entirely Japanese (main male character is an herbivorous guy) but the other issues are worldwide. The only, let's say "twist", that wasn't too much of my liking was the one at the end with Numata-san. And that's because he is like 60 years old and the boy is like 20. Ew.

Music. The OST was top-notch. So fine, the OP isn't "OMG, I LOVE IT!", but it is cute and with a nice mood and fits the dorama perfectly. The soundtrack that goes along the dorama was soo good. Like Italian-like, and it was almost in every laid-back scene. And of course, the ED "KOI" is so catchy! I thought I wouldn't be part of the fandom, but I was wrong! The dance is cute, Hoshino Gen certainly can sing on live, and it will always be part of the best months of the year of me. One, because I visited Japan, and two, because YOI was also broadcasted at the same time. So from now on, every time I listen to this song it will be a natsukasshii! feeling for me XD

For me, story was 10/10. Cast 10/10. Music 10/10. I would totally rewatch this, no doubt. And would I recommend it? Heck yes! This may not -yet- be one of my favorite dorama (I can't say WHY exactly), but I can say that anyone who wants to watch a light but realistic dorama, to give this a try. There are no silly misunderstandings, no overreacting, no stupid tears, so soap-opera-ish scenes... totally recommended.

I am very pleased with this live action. It was very well done, the actors did a wonderful job and what I liked the most is that it was very faithful to the manga. I love the manga to death; it is one of my favorite yaoi manga. It is sweet, it feels real, and it is very touching. I love that the live action has most of the script word by word from the manga. At times it felt a bit slow, but I think it was in part fault of the angles of the camera or others for the lack of a proper soundtrack.

The guy who played Shima did it very well. At first, I thought he was not cute enough. I wished someone else cuter was chosen. He looked to miserable (which, at the same time, was ok). But my biggest concern was that he looked too much like Miyake Ken, but less pretty. But as the movie was progressing, I changed my mind and thought he did excellent.

The actor who played Togawa looked very much like the manga version. Maybe a bit older (Togawa was almost 30, this actor looked like he was in his 35's). My complaint about these two would be their lack of chemistry. They were not stiff (as it happens in other yaoi live actions... **coughTakumicough**. In fact, their sex scene looked sweet, even. But they seemed more friendly than loving, in my opinion. I can't say they were bad because it wasn't... but I was a bit disappointed in their lack of showing they truly love each other.

What I liked that it wasn't in the script:
when Shima kind of rejects Togawa and Togawa asks him to have sex for the last time. Thankfully, that part is omitted in the movie. I don't know, I feel like it wasn't necessary and it was kind of cruel on Togawa's side to do that. In fact, I liked that only their first time together was filmed; not even that part where they do it in Togawa's department with full clothes on.

What I did not like that it wasn't in the script:
The train scene. That scene was one of my favorite in the manga; it was good for Shima and it was so cute that Togawa did that. Why they did not include it in the live action is a sin.

And, as it happens in the manga, the end was.. "what?! and then?".

Although I haven't watched many -or none- yaoi live action so far, this is and probably will be my favorite.
