Sena is a college graduate who dreams of becoming a world class pianist. He teaches piano at a local piano school. Minami is an out of work model. On her wedding day, she gets dumped by her fiance and loses all of her savings, which she gave to her fiance. Her fiance turns out to be Senna's former roommate. She rushes to Sena's apartment and finds out that her fiance has skipped town. With no money and no where to go, she moves in with Sena.

Sena likes Ryoko, a college sophomore. He likes her a lot, but just doesn't have the courage to ask her out. Momoko is Minami's best friend and is also a model. She provides much of the comedic relief in this show. Shinji is Minami's younger brother who just happens to be better than Senna at piano. He opens a bar/nite club. Rumiko is Shinji's girlfriend. Sasaki-sensei is Sena's professor at college and is always encouraging Sena to perform at the next piano competition. (wiki.d-addicts -1996

Longvacation

When I am watching old Jdramas I think they used to be unique, less cheesy and more heartfelt. But I think the same when I watch current dramas, so... This was a good drama that kept me glued the 11 episodes, the script was really good, the heroine, Minami, is totally different from other J-heroines... she is outspoken, fun, open-minded... She didn't try to act girly nor "kawaii", and that made her stand up. On the other hand, waaa, I understand why Kimura Takuya was a heart-rob back then... I think this role was his best because it didn't feel "Kimutaku". Meaning, he didn't act cool, he was so young and more "pure". Late roles are soooo "Kimura Takuya" like... and his hair was glorious.

There are many love triangles in this drama: Minami's, Sena's, Minami's brother's... Sena's last at least 5 episodes, and Minami's at least another 5 :( uff I hate love triangles.. Sena was just a shy, more or less wimpy man in love, whereas Minami did spend a night with the other guy, which I hated since she already had feelings for Sena :S

Minami's brother (Takenouchi Yutaka) was a good guy, but his girlfriends were somewhat annoying... both clingy and one (Matsu Takako, who looks the same as 22 years ago) was too immature and childish. Ah well, that's the kind of girl this Japanese guys love: pure, needy and boring ^_^

Minami's best friend was a terrible actress... it annoyed the hell out of me how she talked...

I found the old-fashioned stuffs refreshing, the lack of cellphones (people had to use phones), the old-fashioned clothes (except the shoes, which were awful), the OST... The only thing I hate about old dramas is that "cool" people are always smoking, hmph.

Yes, it is a classic. There is a good chemistry between Yamaguchi Tomoko and Kimutaku. I love that they start as good friends. I love when a man and a girl meet for the first time and it is like they are old acquaintance. There is also a lot of miscommunication, several marriage proposals, but no evil character.

Comedy about a group of chemistry students who organize a cheating scam during their final exams. Amuro Namie, the top pop music sensation, plays one of the students. (imdb-1996)

The poster is totally unrelated to the story, but nevertheless, it was a fun movie. I love American 90's movies, and this one was very similar to them... location, jokes, life of the students, etc. The first 10 minutes or so had me giggling the whole time, it was both impressive and imaginative. It reminded me a little bit of my high school life XD Then it is all about the students trying to save their dorm, but the principal -the villain- makes a pact with them: in order to save the dorm they all need to grade 100 points. And what's the safest way than cheating on all the exams? XD

The group of students are all colorful, a bit geeky but silly. Pretty Namie Amuro is part of the gang because she has to go and fall for her dimwit classmate XD

All of them are so young! But they didn't change much, like Namie, Yamaguchi and Fujiki Naohito. They all look them same, the men even aged like wine.

A very fun 1 hour and a half movie. Short and to the point. I think anyone who likes classic American comedy would like this.

Well, well, well.... To me this was the best school drama out there. Yes, better than Gokusen, than Dragon Sakura, better than GTO. We have a competent teacher (female counterpart of Abe Hiroshi) and who at the same time, is always there for her students (like Yankumi and Oniizuka). Why it tops the others: this teacher is ZERO cheesiness. This teacher is severe and maybe lacks warm, but even her colleagues can see that she is a good teacher. Her colleagues are responsible and not idiotic. And the top on the cherry: her students are middle school children, instead of angsty teenagers. And in spite of being younger, this is the least childish school drama I've seen. It is really a very unpredictable dorama, which also despicts the education and consecuently, professional life, of the Japanese people. Maya may be harsh, but her methods of teaching is what at least I expect from a teacher: severity, a teacher who is there to guide her students, not to be friends with them.

Story: (9/10) It is true that it is somewhat hard to watch at first how the teacher bullies her students. However, I also think that students need a firm hand in school, otherwise they will all end yankees (see GTO and Gokusen as reference). Besides "Dragon Sakura", this is the first time I see a dorama where the teacher isn't all smiles and "too nice". I love the introduction of Akutsu-sensei/Maya. It took minutes of her shoes walking and walking down the hall till we could finally see her in all her splendor: tight bun, serious expression, black clothes, zero jewelry, zero make-up. She was like a female-Snape: it made you wonder if she was just a bully or if she was nice.

I loved the relationship between Kazumi and her older sister. A protective teenager of her little sister? Who was always there for her. I think I've never seen this kind of normal, yet heartwarming sibling relationship in a dorama yet.

There were many heartwarming moments in this dorama. It may look like it is going to be a dark story.. and it was sometimes, but only a little. Mostly of how it was filmed. I love the direction of this dorama. The change of lights whenever Maya was near. I love how it was filmed from below to make her seem more impressive, scarier.

The bullying was too hard to watch at first, it makes you feel so sorry for Kazumi. No matter how cheerful, positive she was, it was painful. At least she was never alone. Nevertheless, I think she was too forgiven. Her childhood friends betray her, and all that bullying! However, she forgives them all and isn't resentful at all, making ME resentful. I couldn't forgive that awful Erika-chan. And that traitor Baba-chan. In most J-doramas I watch, mean/bad people always redeem themselves, which is nice and all, but far from believable. I don't' care their reasons, they were awful and their crimes are easily forgotten and forgiven. Hmph.

So besides that, I didn't like the dramatic twist in Erika's story. To summarize, the worst part of this story was Erika, 2nd worst Baba-chan. And I think that the students realizing they all love Maya was too sudden. Ep. 10 they all hated her, except for Kazumi, and Ep. 11 (and last one) they all are crying because she is leaving. WHUT. I would have wanted an Ep. 12 to settle things -and feelings- more naturally.

Cast: (9/10) Finally! I watched Amami Yuki in a dorama. She was imposing, elegant, lady-like, yet terrifying. Always mysterious, never cartoonish. On the other hand, Shida Mirai was by far the best child actor. Her tears were so good. Her cute face so adorable. I believed her character, and I never felt she was acting. It was like she was Kazumi, with that silly yet cute "tee-hee" expression. The other child actress that was very good was the one who played Shindo-san. Looked like an anime-character too. And maybe the top student, Nishikawa, was also good. All the other children were ok, some of them even MEH. Kaho was excellent as the older sister, as always. Made me cry a little bit with all her love for her sister.

Music: (10/10) the OST is soo fitting, dark and mysterious. And the EP song ("EXIT" by EXILE) is light and fun, a contrast to the dark series. I love the little dance at the ending sequence. Amami Yuki moves like the wind, so smoothly. I wonder if this dorama was the pioneer in nice dances at the ending sequence. Mind you, it is not such an old dorama, in spite of suggesting the opposite, with the type of clothes and the hairdos in that time.

Rewatch value: (9/10) this one is the kind of dorama that could be watch over again, although I think that the "spooky" factor won't be so strong the 2nd time.

Kenji Sakuragi is a destitute lawyer and one-time member of a motorcycle gang. A failure as a lawyer, he takes a position as a high school teacher and takes on the challenge of preparing a special advanced class for entrance to the prestigious Toudai University. (asianwiki-2005)
Dragonzakura

I resisted for a long time to watch this dorama. On one hand there was YamaPi, whom I dislike, and on the other hand, is Hiroshi Abe, whom I loved. On the balance, in the NO, was Yamapi (he was winning for a long time) but with time, the side of YES won.

I wasn't into the story, tbh. I watched Ep. 2 a month after Ep. 1, and so on. The students were MEH. Like I mentioned before, I dislike Yamapi; he can't act. He is always making the same face over and over again ("I am cool, I don't care"). I don't like Nagasawa Masami, no idea why. I just don't. Gakky is OK, Teppei is OK. The only one I truly like is Saeko. Maybe because of that, their characters were the same to me. While Yamapi's and Masami's were the ones with the "tough" life and the two I should have rooted more, I didn't. I did not care for them. Specially Masami's. Her mother was soooo annoying, and because of that, Masami had to be "strong". Gakky's character was just there, in the special class, because she was Yamapi's girlfriend. And that's it. That was her main motto for like, 9 episodes. To be with her boyfriend and be the model couple in Todai campus. My, how shallow! While it is true she changed for better and wanted to improve for herself, it was so sudden it wasn't believable.

The class that I liked best was the English one, and not because their Engrish was fun XD but because I've learned that in Todai simpler phrases are better than tough ones, because of how it is graded.

So this dorama is the 3rd and last classic one among teacher-students doramas that i needed to watch. My ranking would be: 1) Gokusen; 2) GTO and last 3) Dragon Zakura. BUT... my ranking of teachers may be: 1) Dragon Zakura (I know, Sakuragi-sensei over Yankumi! WTH!); 2) Yankumi, and 3) Onizuka-sensei. Why? Because Sakuragi-sensei was truly interested in his students' education. He truly wanted them to learn and be ready for the entrance to Todai. Yankumi and Onizuka were more about heart, which, while it is nice and all, it is corny. And Onizuka wasn't really prepared to teach since he was an ignorant himself, more or less.

Dear Hiroshi Abe-san truly shined, not only because he is as good as he is in everything, but because all the other adults characters were awful. I still need to find a school dorama where teachers aren't so nasty and the Principal so useless. The teachers in this one were annoying and without interest in their students; Sakuragi-sensei's sidekick, Ino-sensei, was only there to say "Huh?" (truly, this actress overreacted so much... lots of pouts and not enough gray material in her head); and the Principal was a huge joke (literally, she was there to provide comedy relief, but I disliked her. I know she is Abe-san mother-in-law in TRICK and everything, but her role in DZ was so shallow!). ugg, and don't let me start with the parents. All of them huge idiots, and what about the Twin's parents degrading him like that??? And his brother?? Awful...

I marathoned the last 5 episodes, so I can't say this dorama was boring. But it was cheesy, and the fashion of that time killed me (Yamapi's hair... yuck!). I liked the OP song, though. It was catchy. And the ending, while disappointing, was real. Not all of them could get into Todai :(

Saori has always disliked her gay father and has lived her life denying his existence. One rainy day she receives a visit at work from a young man called Haruhiko. He tells her that her father is dying of cancer and that the nursing home he operates is in danger of closing. Out of curiosity and debt, Saori goes to visit her father at the House of Himiko, a nursing home for gay old men. It is a sad place but filled with sardonic good cheer. Surprised but pleased, Haruhiko shows her around. The old men who live there are delighted. Saori is at first repelled by the relationship between Haruhiko and Himiko but she soon sees that their feelings are genuine. She begins taking an interest in keeping the nursing home alive... What a depressing movie. I was in such a low spirits after watching it. I almost did not write a review, why bother? I want to forget I have seen it. I was expecting so much of it... it has Shibasaki Kou and Odagiri Joe, do I need to add more? I have a crush on both of them. She is gorgeous (and her legs!); he is gorgeous. Unfortunately this movie is far more being gorgeous...

Depressing because of how the okama spend their last years. Depressing because Odagiri's character is in love with Himiko who is drying. Depressing because Odagiri's character sleeps with whoever can give him pleasure or money for the institution (he goes as far as sleeping with a corpse! Meaning, an ugly, old perv.. yikes!) Depressing because Shibasaki's character could never forgive her father, who abandoned his wife and family to live as an okama (transvestite). Depressing because it seems like eventually she falls in love with Odagiri, who in spite of liking her very much, cannot be sexually attracted to her, no matter how much he tried. Depressing because, since there is no money (no other pervert to provide) for the institution, she sleeps with his boss, and becomes a regular mistress, even if she doesn't want to and is unhappy about it. But at least, the okama have a place to live.

Depressing as hell.

Oh, and if I was the teenager, I would have also a major crush on Odaigiri <3 Too bad that hair is all over his nice face, and his white clothes are horrendous.

A unique duo of a beautiful female magician and a strange physician are back! After two successful TV series, a record high DVD sales record in the newly released drama category, a smash hit theatrical movie, the best selling novelized book, etc., the show has made a come back to a weekly prime time slot.

The drama takes place at a remote mountain village bound by convention. In each episode, a beautiful female magician and a strange physician witness various supernatural phenomena far beyond their imagination. Just as the previous series, the two will try to investigate and seek what lies behind these paranormal events and logically prove what the tactful trick would be, only, if any. Now reaching its third series, the drama assures an ever more emphasis on the performance of the unique casting, stronger and original scripts, and more fun delving into the mysteries of this favorite title! Trick3-2003

Second best to Season 1. Everything was like Season 1: the dirty jokes (my, I am going to miss all the "flat-chested" jokes and the "big penis" ones! Yamada's description of Ueda: "He is an useless man with a big penis", isn't it just marvelous??), a lot of interaction between Yamada and Ueda, interesting cases... I think my favorite one was the last one, with all the "Je t'aime" thing. I laughed so much! Ueda is a darling, and Abe Hiroshi is and will remain my idol.

Also, there is a moment where Yamada takes Yabe his wig, but of course everything is censored! In the cheapest way, but that is also one of the charms of Trick.

That ending... OMG, fans must have been crazy when it was aired! At least I have the SP and movies... Je t'aime... Ueda, you are killing me! <3

Orange Days is about a group of students in their last year at college dealing with friendships, love, job prospects, and life in general. (asianwiki)

Orangedays

Another oldie, and it was a good one. It may be a bit of a shock when you start watching it (the quality is poor, very VHS-like, although I've seen worst, like "TRICK" and "Love Generation"), but immediately it grabs you. At least that happened to me. I like slice of life stories; they are my favorite kind of manga, and this one has everything I look forward in a shoujo: romance (not the cheesy kind), friendship, life in school, worries about the future, etc. It felt nostalgic: looking for a job, worrying about which path to take for the future, having fun with friends, etc. The OST helped a lot: they are two kind, the sad, serious one, and the happy, youngish one (the same that is at the opening sequence).

Talking about opening sequence, I enjoyed watching both the opening and the ending sequences. They were also nostalgic and so college-ish.

The cast was really good. Not the first time I see Shibasaki Kou (Sae) and I still think she looks fierce. She was so awesome as Sae. She had to learn sing language and she did it so naturally. I love to learn new things when I watch doramas, and with OD I learned a little bit of Japanese Sign Language. After a couple of episodes, it was so natural to see them talking thru signs. Certainly Tsumabaki Satoshi (Kai) and Siraishi Miho (Akane) were incredible with signs. It didn't feel awkward at all, unlike the girl playing Miho, Kai's girlfriend and Sae's mother.

At first I wasn't interested in Akane's and Shouhei's (Narimiya Hiroki) romantic story... How come girls like bad boys instead of nice guys? Specially since I love Eita (Keita). But eventually I came to like them; it was impossible not to since the group was so good. Akane was such a nice friend and funny sometimes, not at all annoying. Keita and Shouhei were different one from the other, but what made them similar was how good friends they were (they even learned a little bit of sign language... not much, but it made the story more realistic every time one of them was "what did she say?" or "how do you say xxx?")

Literally there is a love triangle with each one of them: Kai with his gf + Sae; Shouhei and his lover (Yamada Yuu) + Akane; Akane and Shouhei + Keita; Sae and her sempai + Kai; and at the end (and the one that pissed me off) Sae and the guy + Kai. I just don't understand why a girl has to get engaged just by spite, which is what Sae does... Actually I dislike almost entirely the last 2 episodes. Ok, not "dislike" since I love the whole dorama, but they were my least favorites. It succumbed to the clicheness, while it has been so original at first (having a deaf MC).

I think it is impossible not to like this dorama at least a little bit. It has wonderful characters, a wonderful cast, a sweet story, a nice romance, the main couple is so cute, the hero is the prototype of perfect boyfriend, the OST is sweet, the feelings are nostalgic. Kinda like Nodame Cantabile (funny, it has 3 NC characters: Nodame (Ueno Juri was so young! with a round face... I think she was like 16 at that time... then Mine (my dear Eita, the always nice guy) and Son Rui).

The love story between Kai and Sae was my favorite until the last 2 episodes. Before that, I love their bickering, their chemistry, their friendship. So in spite of seeming a gloomy dorama, it is not (although at first, in Ep. 1 & 2, Sae has some sad speeches, about why is she deaf, and if there is no light, she wouldn't be able to communicate... it was really touching). This dorama is sweet and although some parts were typical of dramas (misunderstandings, being apart from the other for a long time, etc.) they did not drag since it only has 11 episodes (the best thing about J-doramas).

As children, the introverted Smile was being bullied by a gang of kids until the brash Peco comes by and chases all of them them away. Peco then takes Smile under his wings and teaches him how to play the game of ping pong. From there a life long best friend relationship comes into existence between these two polar opposite kids.

Fast forward a decade later, Smile and Peco are now about to compete in a high stakes regional ping pong tournament. While Peco has always wanted to be the best ping pong player in the world, he has never had the drive to fully devote himself to the game. Rather than finding him practicing in the high school gym you would more often than not find Peco hustling other kids out of money at the local ping pong parlor. This is in contrast with Smile, who has the god given talents to actually become the world’s best ping pong player, but is to humble to destroy his opponents. More often than not he allows his opponents to win points and even entire games out of sympathy for them.

Now these two best friends try to deal with their own inner turmoils, as they move further and further into the regional ping pong tournament. Peco has to overcome a knee injury while trying to rediscover the fun aspects of the game of Ping Pong. Meanwhile, Smile now seems to have gained the killer instinct by going through a rigorous training regiment instilled by his high school coach. As the tournament progresses it becomes more likely that these two best friends will face off against each in the final match.

DVD-PingPong-Cover

Not really in the mood to write a review, but I'll say that this movie was exactly what I was looking for. Friendship, coming of age, sportsmanship... All the scenes were they were playing ping pong were very exciting, good shots and the music helped.

Peco has the most ridiculous hairstyle but he was full of life and I liked that. Very different from his BFF Smile. There was a mini-reunion of Ichi. In fact, I was surprised at the cast and cameos... there are a lot of familiar faces, starting with our favorite sensei, Takenaka Naoto (Nodame Cantabile, Swing Girls). Daigo's father, from Sentai Kyoryuger has also a small role. And the biggest surprise, at the end (I had to google it when I finished the movie, just to be sure), is also a little Sometani Shota! He must have been like 5 or so, so tiny and cute, but he did not say a word.

The movie is bilingual, since one of the main rivals is Chinese and he only talks in Chinese.

It does not feel like it is old, it has a very contemporary feeling. And it is not a long movie; so the pace did not feel slow nor rushed. Very well narrated. I am very interested in ping pong since I saw in several TV variety shows (like in V6 Gakuen) how the students are trained and how the schools invest so much in it. It is a very fast, interesting sport (I have never played it in all my life).

Risa (Ema Fujisawa), a tall Japanese girl, gets rejected by a boy because she is taller than him. Otani (Teppei Koike), a short Japanese guy, gets rejected by a girl because he is shorter than her. Obviously these two would make the oddest of couples and would never be a good match for each other right? Well love doesn’t always follow such logic as Love Complex shows. (asianwiki)

Lovelycomplexposter

If I am correct, this is the first Live Action I watched, around 4-5 years ago. I was so happy, and at the same time, I thought this movie was beyond ridiculous. But I was not disappointed. Perhaps because it was my first Live Action? And I was not expecting too much? Although LoveCom is one of my favorite manga.

Teppei was OK as Otani. Cute and small, and a bit silly, which was fine because that is how Otani is. Ema as Risa, on the other hand... WOW, how miscast! First of all, she was not tall. And it was so obvious the director or whoever, tried to sell us the image that she was, what with that hairstyle and those high shoes. Whenever they were together and/or she was complaining that she was taller, I was thinking "girl, you could take off those shoes and you will be fine". Not suitable at all. And she was very whinny. I know Risa cries over and over again, but never, not once, I felt annoyed with her tears, unlike the girl in the movie. She was not cute, but silly.

They followed the story pretty closely, except for the secondary characters. Their friends were so silly and not at all like in the manga/anime (I absolutely love the gang). And that fake sister they made up for Risa... totally unnecessary. Her personality was gross.

Not a good way to start watching Japanese Live Action. Thank God it did not scare me enough to make me stop watching them. I would not recommend this to any LoveCom fan (of manga and anime) and to anyone who is new to this world. In my case, I found it too silly, too ridiculous and too much overreacting, although I did find it funny and laughed several times.

Trickthemovie

Plot wise, it was a bit all over the place. It left me with more questions than answers. Why did they hire Yamada? Why was the need to murder Ueda's friend? Why murder all these people? Why sacrificing themselves at the end? Etc, etc.

Ueda remains Yamada's biggest fan. I love how enthusiastic he is every time she performs. He is cute and funny <3 Although at the end of the meeting where he invited her to come and perform, he, like the big coward he is, denies any relationship with her and let the other mock her. Poor Yamada, she was so hurt she cried ^_^

But Ueda redeems himself at the island; he is always supporting Yamada and she lays her safety in his hands. We get the old jokes again, the sexual ones XD. There is a message that Yamada misunderstands, and I loved how at the end Ueda tries to get what could she have possibly read, but she is always interrupting him, since she is very embarrassed <3 I love these two, how they care for each other but that no one is going to give the first step <3

Stresseman Takenata Naoto has a small role, very small, I was impressed. I looked at his list of movies, and oh my! He has done thousands of movies. He is truly every where.

Riko Narumi has a small role as well, but not as Yamada as a child, which was strange. No, she has a role as the hidden daughter of a couple and possible Goddess of the Turtle. Seems like the Director truly liked her, since she is always portraying Yamada as a child, but if she is not, she still has a role in the movie.

It did not feel like a movie, but more like a long episode of the dorama.

A beautiful female magician named Naoko (Yukie Nakama) and a strange physician named Ueda (Hiroshi Abe), whose life's work is exposing fraud disguised as ESP, magic, spiritualism, telekinesis and the like, resent each other, but work together to solve mysteries that baffle laypeople, including the police.(asianwiki)

Trick2-2002

This couple is going to kill me, but in the good sense. They are so meant for each other, but as it happens in most Japanese doramas, this is not about romance, so we (the audience) is left wanting for more. That last scene.... OMG, it can't end like that (!!!).

Till now, I can count with the fingers of one hand the sequels that were as good or better than it predecessor. Sadly, I cannot say TRICK 2 was as good, but still, I liked it. The difference with the first season is that, mainly, the bickering between Yamada and Ueda is less. I mean, they still bick, but not as much. They do not tease the other because of their "sexual issue" (Yamada with her flat chest, and Ueda with his, ehem, male issue).

Also, the cases are not as creepy as Season 1, and the "villains" are not as colorful. Still, I found myself laughing out loud several times because of Ueda and his silliness. Like when Yamada was trying to tell him about the treasure, and he was misunderstanding everything. Or when he was clapping his hands happily to tunr off and on the lamp, and Yamada, out of patience, yelled "Ueda!" (I absolutely love every time she calls him "Ueda", without any honorifics). Or when he ran away, saying "jump" and his pose, like he was flying! And the scene where he and Yamada are sleeping out in the woods, and he is trying to be gallant giving his coat, but at the end, since he is freezing, he remains being Ueda. He is hilarious, and it just consolidated my admiration for Abe Hiroshi, currently my favorite Japanese actor.

In this season, Ueda is not as "useless" as in the previous one. He faints less and helps to resolve the cases; more than he did before. Still, he still needs Yamada with him, and is always pestering her when a new case is presented. I love that. I also love how Yamada narrates at the beginning of each episode, saying she is a beautiful magician XD

There are a couple of episodes where Ueda is missing, so Yabe, the cop with the wig, was a replacement as Yamada's sidekick. Surprisingly, in spite of me thinking first that it wouldn't be the same (since I love Ueda), he was a good sidekick. There is a chemistry between him and Nakama Yukie (that we can see again in the Gokusen series) and he was very funny. Although not as much as Ueda, but who is?

My favorite scene, without a doubt, is the last one. It shows that both of them care for each other, that Okaasan -it is so funny that Ueda calls her Okaasan like it is nothing- knows Ueda and Yamada are meant for each other. And it gives hope for a 3rd season (which I know there is, but audience at that time didn't).

My final rating: 9/10

Aki (Takeuchi Yuko) is a typical OL (office lady), and is waiting for her boyfriend to return from studying architecture abroad. At this point in time however, he shows no sign of coming back. One day, Aki's friends who are determined to find her a new boyfriend, invite her to watch an ice hockey game. There she sees Halu for the first time.

After the game, Aki and her friends join the players for a party celebrating their victory. Aki, however, is not so excited to be there. When she leaves the party, she bumps into Halu, who was slightly injured from a fight. They exchange e-mail addresses and part.

The sparks of mutual attraction are ignited in a second encounter between Aki and Halu, arranged with the help of her friends shortly after a party.

Hyodo (Sato Koichi) has come as a replacement for the team's coach who has been hospitalized. Halu has a lot of respect for the hospitalized coach. Unfortunately, he can't stand Hyodo's way of doing things. Bringing with him a lot of coaching experience from overseas, Hyodo criticizes the former coach's strategies. Whenever Halu and Hyodo see each other, they get into a quarrel; consequently influencing Halu's behavior during games.

Seeing that his game ended in a brawl, Aki visits Halu to comfort him. But he tells her that she is being too friendly with him.

Aki is hurt, Halu is irritated, and his teammate Hotta (Sakaguchi Kenji) can't stand seeing Halu like this...(dramawiki)

Another KimuTaku dorama I can scratch from my list. I think this is the dorama where he was the most handsome. He looks young and carefree, and has a nice haircut, and he doesn't smoke! One of his habits I hate to see the most in his dramas... He was very good as Halu, mostly because Halu is a cool character without a sense of humor, and well, I could see KimuTaku exactly like that in real life. I mean, he is really an IDOL, cool image but even the other SMAP members barely make fun of him.

This is the first time I see Takeuchi Yuko (Aki) acting. The first time I saw her was in a SMAP corner in SMAPxSMAP, where all members that had the chance to act with her talk about her, and Kusanagi said that he really fell in love with her. She seemed like a nice, shy girl, almost like Aki. I also know that Nino is his biggest fan. She is certainly very cute and her looks remind me a bit of Ueno Juri: you wouldn't say she is the prettiest girl at first glance, but then you slowly start to realize that she is, and that in fact, she has a very cute smile.

Anyway, the chemistry between the two of them was good. And the fact that she looks a bit like Matsuko helped a little more.

What makes this dorama almost excellent:

- The soundtrack!: Queen! I may not be their biggest fan, but I love Queen. This is the first time I listened to "I Was Born To Love You", and from the first "I was born..." I loved the song. It suited the opening sequence so good. The excitement of the play, the people, the romance... everything. Since the song has a lot of power, it made the opening sequence more powerful. But it is not only there where we could listen to Queen... in fact, the entire soundtrack was Queen's: from "We will rock you" to "Bohemian Rhapsody". And well, you can't really go wrong with Queen...

- It's Hockey, minna!: not that I am a super Hockey fan, but since I watched the movie "Mighty Ducks" when I was a kid, I love Hockey. And in fact, this Sunday I will go to my very first Hockey on Ice game! so it was very exciting the few times I got to see a game. True, there weren't much, but even when the guys were in their dressing room with their uniforms on, it was exciting.

- Friendship among the players: I think it is always nice to see friendship among the guys. In the dorama, they have their backs for each other all the time. Maybe Haru and Yamato were the best friends, but Tomo was always there for them as well. And I loved what Haru did for Makoto at the end, in the final episode.

- Scenes that could have been corny were moving: like the one with Yamato and the parents of the dead boy. It starts a bit cliche and melodramatic, but the end moved me which surprised me. The other one was with Makoto. To be honest, I was expecting to hate him. One, because it is Sato Ryuta, and he always makes the "nicest" guys to be most pathetic guys. And two, well, Makoto was a joke. Too naive, too nice, too hardworking. In the end, I was surprised to be moved by his tears. Sato Ryuta was really good in this dorama, I am not ashamed to admit it.

- Bromance: awww the bromance between Haru and Yamato. I was thinking that, even if they didn't get their girls at the end, at least they had each other....

- Development of a certain character: and that is the Coach. He begins as someone cold-hearted, an antagonist to Haru. Then, a kind of rival because Coach used to date Anzai's wife, and Anzai was Haru's former coach until he died. Until slowly, they start to become if not friends, comrades. The ending for the Coach was bittersweet (wth with his eyes!) but I am glad he gets the girl at the end, he deserved her.

What ruined a little bit:

- So the first 7 chapters were entertaining, fun to watch, romantic. Then, the last 4 episodes... .MEH. A big MEH. I know Aki's charm was that she was like a girl from the last century, but what with the whole "I am waiting for my boyfriend, who got away two years ago and hadn't contacted me at all, but I am still waiting for him"! In episode 7 he shows up, so bye Haru. Sure there were tears, but neither one of them made a SINGLE MOVE. No, both preferred to suffer, on one hand she crying and getting back to her boyfriend (a boyfriend that disappeared for TWO YEARS, not a single call, not a single email, nothing! and as if in these two years he didn't hook up!); and on the other hand, Haru, with his pride, not trying to get the girl back. It was exasperating! Her side was easier to understand: she is a traditional girl and she believed Haru was just a player who couldn't love. But him! He just stand there, with a poker face, but he doesn't say ANYTHING! His friends are the one who do all the work...

- The boyfriend: Aki was an idiot or what. She did not want to be with him anymore, but she did. He had the nerve to be "jealous" when he finds out Aki had been with a guy, and he turns violent. Seemed like Aki was scared (hello, she was bleeding and all) but then she forgives him and says she thought it was cute? Huh? The domestic violence was cute? And she was still decided to marry that guy? Huh?

- Penelope? Is that you?: Aki had to wait two years for her boyfriend. Then, at the end, Haru goes to Canada to play for the NHL, and stays there for 3 years. So, in total, Aki waited 5 years for love. (!!!!) And I am sure neither one of them "waited" for Aki -and I mean, were loyal to her-.

- Yamato and his love story: can we really say it was a love story? That girl was super shallow, and if it wasn't for his accident, she would have never come back. And how things turned out for him was so out of nowhere, especially that accident. Why make things so dramatic??

- English words: I know that Japan loves all things English, but what the hell with all the "Engrish" words? Maybe, win, etc, etc. And, I am not kidding, they say Pride at least twice every episode, it was insane.

- It is true Kimura can act, he does the "kakkoi" character very well, but he can't smile! His smile is always too fake, too forced. Besides, it lasts like, 0.03 miliseconds.

In summary, episodes 1-6 were excellent. Episode 7, ends bad, with a glimpse of "the boyfriend". Episodes 8-10, bad, melodramatic, and miscommunication (I HATE miscommunication!). Episode 11, starts MEH, what with the "boyfriend" redeeming himself (I hate last minute redeems, they are like a cheap and easy way to end things). The last scene, with all the team and Haru and Aki kissing was good again.

The tale of Tiger & Dragon revolves around Rakugo, a traditional form of Japanese comedy that can look back on an impressive 400 year long history. Nagase portrays the Yakuza follower Toraji who goes to a Rakugo performer to collect debts, while Okada plays Ryuji a talented Rakugo player who wants to leave behind the old fashioned world of Rakugo for good. Shortly afterwards these two very different characters happen to cross paths through a girl named Megumi and that's when all the real trouble starts igniting...

300px-Tiger_&_Dragon

I think there wasn't a single episode where I did not laugh. It was funny and silly at the same time. My kind of j-dorama. The first episode was a bit confusing... only now I am reading that the SP has to be seen BEFORE the 11 episodes. What? Damn. I get know why I did not understand a thing in the first episode...

So I learned a new thing about Japan, and it was about the Rakugo (I love to learn new stuff about Japan. One of the highlights of watching j-doramas). Each episode was a bit formulaic: the Master (Shishou) tells the story in front of an audience. Then the plot happens, and it ends with Tora narrating the same story, only with a twist. The story is linked to what happens to the main character of that episode.

Nagase is meant to play silly, yakuza roles. Not that I am an expert, but after this and MBMH, I can only see him as a yakuza, albeit a silly one. He is not afraid to lose his idol image (although fans, who think he is the most handsome of all, also see him as dumb). Okada was also good (the first time I see him acting), was never over-the-top and looked very natural. My complain about the two of them would be: they smoke too much! Whenever I see the actors smoking on screen, I can see them with this awful habit in real life. Because, what is the need to smoke on screen? It does not contribute to the story, and well, most of them have smoker teeth and lips (yes, I am looking at you Nagase).

But to me the, the best actors were the few who had a smaller role. First, Kiritani Kenta. Gosh, this guy ALWAYS makes me laugh. What with those outfit, especially with that short T-shirt! I wish his role was bigger, I feel like he was wasted here.

The other one that started as annoying, then redeems himself, is Jumptei Jump (Arakawa Yoshiyoshi). The way he talks, and his expressions. He was excellent. I was laughing every time he used his gag of jump.

And the last one, is Abe Sadao. He just looks like a loser, and since he was a failure as a comedian, it made me laugh more. His outfit! So uncool.

I wasn't a fan of the Shishou. He is supposed to be the best (since he is the Master), but I found his narration very bad, with many mannerism in his talking: mah, ne, uhm. Is a rakugo performer allowed to use this kind of expression?

All in all, it was a fun, honest, unpredictable drama. There are silly, cartoonish moments (like those that involves Megumi-chan), running gags ("Sayuri-chan is crying" -> always made me laugh; Tora paying his fees, then turning into his yakuza-mode to demand his payment); excellent guest actors (Yakushimaru Hiroko -the mother of Aya in "1 liter of tears"); Kohinata Fumiyo (HERO, JIN); Kiramura Kazuki (Yokai Ningem Bem), current life inside the rakugo stories.
Tiger, Tiger, Gilletiger! -> so silly but it works XD

Although 23 year old Yamada Naoko is a "super" magician, she is continously fired and constantly hounded by her landlady for the rent being late. After being fired once again, her boss shows her an ad of a physics professor, a non-believer of all things magical, offering money to anyone who can prove to him that magic is real. Desperately needing the money, Naoko accepts the challenge, which is how she comes to meet Professor Ueda. Falling prey to her simple magic tricks, Ueda is impressed, and enlists Naoko to help him uncover the tricks behind a local cult. Their hilarious antics, along with those of police officer Yabe, leads them onto further mysteries, all with tricks needing to be solved in sort of an "X-Files" meets "Scooby-Doo"...

trick

So far, oldies are proving to be better than newbies. Mind you, not always, but whenever I think I need to watch a really good drama, I pick up an oldie.

"TRICK" was one of those doramas that I knew I would eventually watch it, but being an oldie I resisted. It is not really THAT old, but the quality of the video is the poorest I've seen so far, and there is no luck to find a better quality. It was like watching a homemade movie or something. The show by itself did not look so old (the hairstyle, clothes and electronic devices did not look THAT old-fashioned). The angles of the camera are odd, which at first I thought was kind of awkward, but really, it suits the drama.

Another reason why it took me so long was that the reviews I've read said that the jokes were too Japanese style to understand/appreciate. Well, now I see that I was completely foolish. I love Japanese humor. It is wacky, sometimes simple, sometimes over-the-top. I was constantly giggling while watching "TRICK". Sure, it is not entirely comedy, but the few times they worked (like every time Ueda fainted... I swear, he does that in almost every episode, and it is always funny!).

The two main actors were superb. I love both of them, I knew they couldn't do anything wrong. But I was so pleased with the chemistry between them. Sometimes it felt like Nakame Yukie (Yamada Naoko), while talking to Abe Hiroshi (Ueda Jiro), was struggling not to laugh. I love every time she said "Usai, Ueda!", or "Baka Ueda!", or every time she called him Ueda, not using any honorific suffix. Ueda is a respectable Professor and physicist, but she treats him like he is her younger brother sometimes. She loves to play with his mind, and although he is a physicist, ergo, not believing in any paranormal activity, he easily falls for anything she tells him. Their relationship was so funny, light, and at the same time, you can sense their bonding.

Yamada is the one who gets the tricks in every chapter, who solves almost every thing, but Ueda is also useful (he knows some martial arts). They complemented each other. She is super tiny, with "Small Breasts", while he is huge, with a "Big Penis". It is amazing but these jokes about their sizes were funny every time, and it never gets old. They make a lovely couple (they are both very attractive as well), a mismatched couple.

There are in total like 4 cases in the entire first Season. Not all of them end satisfactorily. My favorite one may be the one were the girl "killed" people thru her "powers". It had several twists and although some questions remained unanswered, it was kind of creepy.

I don't know if I would recommend it to "anyone" (specially not to someone who is not used to a Japanese dorama), but in my case, I loved it and I would re-watch it without a doubt.

A high-school comedy drama with an ex-delinquent-turned-highschool-teacher.Sorry, he is not a conventional excellent teacher, but his unique way of being with students causes changes in the minds of students. How? Very instinctively and naughtily. (asianwiki)
Great_Teacher_Onizuka

Another oldie, a true classic. I can't say it is my favorite, nor that I understand why it is the most popular J-drama ever, but I enjoyed watching it, and I met good actors that I have never seen before (except for a couple of them).

The guy who played Onizuka was the best. He WAS Onizuka. He looked silly but cool; nice but a bit tough; handsome but naive. I love his bickering with Fuyutsuki-sensei; they had a good chemistry (and then I read that they are actually married in real life!). I would have never thought that it would be romantic to get the condom of a virgin guy (condom that he is keeping for years) as a form of love confession. But it was!

In many ways it is similar to Gokusen, like:

- both are naive, virgin teachers that get tough when the situation requires it;
- both are pretty much rejected by their students at first; but eventually they win their hearts thru a series of events;
- both of them have the head-teacher after their positions... meaning, the head-teacher is trying by any means to get this new teacher fired;
- both are very charismatic and very much loved by their friends.

But also, they have their differences:

- Gokusen is more of a familiar-drama; while GTO is more mature. There is a student in underwear, trying to seduce him; there is an attempt of rape and gang-rape (probably); the students in GTO are MUCH MORE angsty. Why, in Gokusen the boys never said "I want to kill Yankumi", while Miyabi and Murai said this several times. Guh, these guys took their "hate" too personal, one of the things I did not like too much in GTO.

- On the other hand, what I liked more in GTO was the way Onizuka won their students over. It was less forced than Yankumi (who, hello, once she worked extra-time to get money for her student who owed a lot of money!). Onizuka was not over-the-top in his actions; he was subtle and once or twice he fooled around, but it was funny and made the situation less dramatic.

The first episodes I watched them once after the other. But the last 4 were more difficult. First, it was Miyabi. Too dramatic. What was all the about the guy and his father who "killed bugs" to show the audience they were dangerous and heartless? I had to roll my eyes on both occasions. Also, and this is something that bothered me since episode 1, this school hired the worst teachers ever. Sure, Onizuka is a great sensei (as in, a good friend, a good adviser, a reliable hand, etc.), but his education was below from his students! What could he teach? Fuyutsuki was English teacher, but she could not even understand a single question. And the other teachers... wow, one worst than the other: one is a possible rapist; another is a student beater; another is a wimp who can't get respect from his students; another is a bitter bitch, another is a blackmailer.... Ugh, this school... But all of them redeemed at the end. Yeah, right. Even the director who was stabbed at the back forgave the awful head-teacher.

I don't care Miyabi's reasons for her change; she bullied one of her classmates (the poor boy was covered in bruises) and no one said anything! She bullied almost all her classmates, but all of them welcomed her with open arms once she was "sorry". Right.

Taking aside the education (which is the most important thing for a student, but that is irrelevant in a dorama), GTO was fun to watch. Definitely a must.

Special mention: to the handsome police friend of Onizuka, played by the handsome Fujiki Naohito. He was so young here and so pretty. He is definitely like the wine: the older, the better. His role is not as tiny as I thought: he was a good friend but also a pervert (with that angel face!).

2nd special mention: we have a very young, tiny Oguri Shun. One of the first students to surrender under Onizuka's spell. He was being bullied (the worst kind) and it is funny because once he grows up, he will never again play bullied boys but tough guys. He looked like a 12-years-old boy, although I think he was around 15. But well, all his classmates were 20-years-old playing 16, so I guess that is why.

In a Japanese high school, a class of adolescent geeks joins the new synchronized swimming teacher and takes up the challenge to take part in the competition, in spite of the mockeries of the "real sportsmen". (source: imdb)
Water_Boys-p2

I loved the movie "Swing Girls" and this one, since it is from the same director, has the same feelings. It is light, it is funny and sweet and mostly, it is about friendship and creating wonderful memories in school with your classmates. A group of "losers", that achieve something great where all other people -other classmates- did not give them a chance.

I thought I was going to be repelled by skinny guys in tiny swimsuits. But I did not, not at all! In fact, I was not bothered by it at all. At first I admired these guys for acting at least 40% of the movie in these swimsuits. Oh and the guy in thong! Poor boy... that thong was serious business.

This is the first time I see Tsumabaki Satoshi acting. He was cute, a down-to-earth kind of guy, and so tanned! There are definitely no stunt-guys in this movie. All guys are to tanned by the end of the movie.

Sure there are cliches or lame jokes. Like when Sato, the afro-guy, caught fire in his hair. Or the gay guy and his effeminate mannerisms. But.. I don't know. I guess there was so much "heart" on the movie that it did not matter. I think it was more a slice of life than a comedy, and little jokes in slice of life stories are cute.

We have in the movie a tiny Nodame reunion! Or should I say, a pre-Nodame reunion... Chiaki and Stresseman! Looks like the Director loved working with the actor Stresseman (he has a main role in SG as well) and with Tanaka Yoyi (who has a cameo as a police man).

Did Tamaki have that mole for real when he was younger? Or was it makeup only? Because I can't figure it our why would he have a fake mole.... And as expected from this handsome man, he had the best body among the students, just saying.

The final performance was awesome. I refrained myself from clapping and cheering them while I was watching it. Good job you guys!

Smart, successful and good-looking Iwaya Sumire works for a big newspaper. However, her boss asks her to leave for being too "perfect" a woman. Feeling angry and dejected Iwaya returns home depressed, and most of all lonely. However, when she finds an unconscious young man lying in a box out the front of her home and takes him in. He looks like a dog she used to own called Momo. She dubs him Momo and decides to "keep him as a pet." It's the start of an unexpected life together as they overcome obstacles and become quite attached to one another. But can love like this exist? --TBS

I've read the first volume of the manga but I wasn't hooked. It happened sometimes again when I was watching the dorama. I mean, it is good, it is funny, it is cute, but sometimes bordered the redundant. I think it would have been better if it was a movie instead of a 10-episodes-drama.

I don't have any complains about Koyuki. She has the aura of a star (not only beautiful, but elegant, slender, magnificent), but she can certainly cry and laugh. Only she could play the role of Sumire-chan. Why? Because Sumire-chan is a beautiful, successful woman that gives the impression of being a cold princess and who, of course, intimidates people with this kind of aura. Koyuki, when she has a serious semblance, intimidates a little bit I think. But when she smiles, she shows a certain vulnerability (it's her dimples maybe).

MatsuJun as Momo was very cute. Once I got over that hairdo (too messy and it does not suit him, but like it happened in HYD, after a couple of episodes, I was convinced it looked good on him) and over his silly character (so different from tough Shin in Gokusen and punk Domyouji), I liked him, especially every time he greeted his "master" when she arrived home. And although I don't like how he kisses (it is like he was eating the girl's face), it was nice to have a lead hero kissing for real, instead of the awkward pecks that most Japanese guys give in doramas.

I loved their relationship. Not romantic, but more pure, more about comradeship. They truly resembled a master and her pet. While it may be a weird concept, I was not bothered by it since it is based on a manga (and manga, sometimes, are quite silly and not realistic at all). Well, the truth is that in the first episode I was wondering how a woman living alone could trust a stranger younger man to live with her, in exchange of being her pet and allow him to be ALONE in her department. But with each episode, and Momo being Momo -sweet and naive and hyper and honest - one can forget about the first doubts.

This is one of the few love stories where the other guy in the love triangle is actually nice. Hasumi, who is Sumire-chan's sempai, has always liked her and he was a nice guy. He was everything Sumire-chan wanted: taller than her, with a higher paid than her and a good education just like her (opposite of Momo). He was also handsome -although every time he smiled he looked very dork, and it did not help he has a smoker smile, opposite to MatsuJun and his killer smile- But he disappointed me a couple of times, and I disliked him in the end. It was Ooc what he did...

The girl who played Fukushima annoyed the hell out of me. I hated her smile and her "cute" voice. I almost dropped it several times because of her. Her character was very two-dimensional. The "evil" one, that made no sense. It was like watching an old latin soap opera.

Eita has a small role, which makes no sense. He is an amazing actor, he should always get the main role XD

So... The good:

- Sumire-chan: impossible not to feel a bit identified with her, since she is very Western-like (as in, she is more like a Western woman, unlike the other Japanese girls who just want to look cute and get married).

- Her relationship with Momo: so funny every time he jumped on her, or when she kicked his ass (there is a scene where I am sure Koyuki accidentally kicked MatsuJun's face).

- The hugs: Sumire and Momo hugged with the whole body, not the stiff hugs I usually see in doramas. In fact, the physical aspect -the kisses, the petting- was well done.

The MEH:

- Hasumi at the end.

- The dance. Not a fan of contemporary dance.

- MatsuJun when he smiled. It did not feel natural, it was actually a bit awkward. I guess he is better suited for "kakkoi" roles.

- Fukushima's voice and smile. No, scratch that. Her entire character, in fact.

- Sumire's BFF wasn't really such a nice friend. I can't put my finger on what exactly, but I did not like her.

- Sato Ryuta has a small role. I dislike him when he acts like a goody guy; he overacts and looks more pathetic than nice. Besides, he has a awful hairdo here.

- It is a bit repetitive.

Computer engineer Otaku (the Japanese term for “geek”) is an average young man, dressed in unstylish clothes and dorky glasses. But as luck would have it, he encounters a pretty young woman on a commuter train and saves her from a lecherous molester, falling in love with her at first sight.

A few days later he receives a thank-you message from the woman along with a set of Hermes teacups . Having never had a girlfriend or received a gift from a girl in his life , Otaku seeks out his pals on Internet Bulletin Board (BBS) website for advice using his codename Train Man (Densha Otoko) : “How should I ask her out?” Deeply interested in Train Man’s first love, his BBS pals eagerly supply him with advice. Encouraged by their support, Train Man undergoes a total makeover for his first-ever date with “Hermess.” Little does he know that he is about to ignite an Internet phenomenon ...

I fell in love with this story after I read the manga. I am currently reading the novel (it is hilarious) so I was tempted over the weekend to watch the movie. While it was good, and it actually made me be a little bit tearful, I was a bit disappointed. I don't think people who had not read the manga/novel should watch the movie first. The good part of the story is, of course, the online community. In the book it is like a continuation of a previous thread; Densha's story begins out of nowhere. In the movie, however, he starts a new thread asking for someone to listen to his story. Seven people are his "buddies": 3 gamers, 1 nurse, 1 hikikomori, and a married couple.

I think that, maybe because the movie is shorter, but the netizen did not have a major role as I was hoping. Their advices are less, the fun (except for the 3 gamers) is also less. It is more the story between Densha and Hermes, than Densha and the online community. In that sense, it was a big let down.

Yamada was good as Densha, and Miki also as Hermes. He looks awkward and sweet, although his makeover did not feel too real (since the actor is someone attractive, they made him look "too" otaku before the change). Miki looks quiet and super nice, like Hermes would (in my imagination at least), but there was a scene in the movie I did not comprehend. Why did she run away when she saw Densha in front of the computer, before he decides they were "too different"? Since that is something that Hermes did not do (at least in the manga), it was OoC, I think maybe to make the movie more dramatic.

The 3 gamers were, no doubt, the best of all netizens. They represented how the community really behaved online, with the bombs and their cheers. It did not hurt that 2 of the actors (Yoshinori Okada and Makoto Sakamoto) are always in awesome movies and doramas. They are great! (I am currently watching Sakamoto in Nodame and in Liar Game; this guy is everywhere). Another "Nodame" character: Eita! A bit disappointed in his role, though. He shines wherever he is, but his character, since he is an isolated, gloomy boy, which did not suit him.

Not a bad movie, but I would recommend to read the story first, or the magic would be lost.

Katagiri Teppei (Kimura Takuya) is a promising creative agent, but whose attitude gets him transferred to the sales department. He has to learn to adapt to the new working environment, which includes cutting his precious locks of hair to create a neater and more appropriate image. Helping him along the way is Uesugi Riko (Matsu Takako), whom he tried to pick up along the street earlier but was tricked by her instead. Riko does not have a good impression of him at first, but falls for him gradually. However, Teppei runs into his ex-girlfriend Mizuhara Sanae (Junna Risa) who is now the girlfriend of his brother Soichiro (Uchino Masaaki). Consoling him is Riko, whom Teppei likes gradually. Just when Teppei and Riko start dating, Sanae realises that she still likes Teppei...

I admit it, I was not very attracted to the story the first 5 minutes, mainly because it is an oldie and you can tell that it is. The quality is poor, I downloaded one that is so LQ that the faces are mostly pixelated. This is the first time I watch a real old dorama. Hell, I was in Middle School when this was released. I was a BSB fan, and not interested in Japan at all (wow, I was missing so much!). The thing is, Internet was a rare phenomenon, and I did not have access to it like I do now.

So once the shock of watching such a LQ dorama passed, I was hooked with the story. It has a Mexican soap opera feeling; the angles of the camera, the old soundtrack, the clothes... Even that apple in the middle of anything was so soap-opera-ish. I did not understand what it meant, although after half of the episodes, I kind of understood (the banner says "True love never runs smooth"; and it is obvious Teppei's and Riko's is True Love).

The story is a slice of life, a romantic one with several misunderstandings. Because the dorama has 11 episodes only, the misunderstandings don't last long (thankfully), but it is one after the other.

All I can say is that the script was so well done I was immediately hooked, and it did not matter that I did not like most of the characters. Out of 5, I liked 2. I disliked the others intensely.

Who I liked?

- Riko, played by Matsu Takako. She can act, that is a big plus. Besides, I liked her personality. I like that she was so different from Sanae, that she was so easy-going and mostly annoying, but at least, very honest. Every time she cried, I was tearful. Poor girl, she suffered so much, but she never gave up! I admired her, because if I was her, I would have given up since episode 3.

- Eriko: Her best friend, interpreted by Fujiwara Noriko. She was a cheerful girl who was always there to support Riko-chan.

Before I start with the "who I did not like", I want to say that Kimura looked his best here. Not only he is younger (duh), but once he cuts his hair (or it is cut by someone else hehe) he looks really good. Nice haircut, simple but very sexy.

So...

Who I did not like?

- Teppei: while it may be true that KimuTaku looks his best here, it is also not his best role. Sure, Teppei is a "kakkoi" guy, he is a hard-worker, a nice friend and co-worker (what guy would be so nice to not have yelled at the girl who cut his glorious hair?). He also has his moments where the female audience would go "awwww" (such as when he hugs Riko from behind.. or when he runs to her hometown once he hears she is having an omiai). I had Shingo in mind during these scenes. There was a corner in SMAPxSMAP where the guys had to decide between A or B, which action is best liked by women? And according to Shingo, he had Kimura's characters in mind to decide, because Kimura's character are like, the epitome of Hero in a Romance. Well, not really. Teppei is not only a lecher, but an awful boyfriend. He makes Riko suffer constantly; he plays two sides. The only option Riko had was to trust him, and how could she? Even I had my doubts whether he really loved her or not. And once he hurt her, and she ran away, he went after her to do, what? To stay in front of her and be quiet? Say something, damn it!

Another thing I hated about him, but I guess it is all Kimura's, is that bad habit he has to smoke every damn time. In the office. Inside the taxi. At the bar. In his department. I hate smoking, and I hate that Kimura has, in that time already, smoker mouth (gray lips, stained teeth). Not appealing at all.

- Soichiro: what can I say, the Katagiri brothers are the worst. After he commits the worst crime a man can do to his fiancee, he has the nerve to ask for forgiveness. What an ass.

- Sanae: although she is nice and does not have ill intentions towards Riko, I could not stand her. The main reason is that I hate her type: perfect ex-girlfriend, perfect housewife, soft-spoken, always there with Teppei even when they have broken years ago. So fragile she needed Teppei (Te-chan **sneer**) always there for her (and the stupid guy who had to comfort her even when his Girlfriend was there suffering). Besides, first she "loves" Soichiro; then turns out, she has always loved Teppei, and at the end, she wants to try things over with Soichiro. Make up your mind, woman!

To me, the story was somewhat similar to Inuyasha (I love that manga/anime). Teppei is like Inuyasha (although Inuyasha was more sensible, and he truly appreciated Kagome), even their personalities were alike: serious, rescuing whoever needed him. Riko is like Kagome, suffering because her love cannot forget his first love. And although she suffers and cries because of him, she cannot go away. Better suffer than not being with him. I cannot say Sanae is like Kikyo because she is not... at all.

There is not a single boring moment on these 11 episodes; true, there were times where I was biting my nails because of certain misunderstandings (although I was always rooting for Riko, and if she misunderstood something, it was for a good reason). I would recommend it to people who likes or liked to watch Latin soap operas.

Synopsis

Kohei Kuryu is a former juvenile delinquent who drops out of junior high and goes on to earn a high school equivalency diploma. After passing the law board exams, Kuryu becomes a prosecutor. Not your typical prosecutor, which is quickly seen through the clothes that he wears, Kuryu possesses quick instincts and a kind of cleverness that only someone raised on the streets could have.

Maiko Amamiya is a shrewd public prosecutor who has her eyes set on passing the exam to become a deputy prosecutor and tries her best to be noticed by her boss. Kuryu, on the other hand, after earning a reputation for doing top-notch work, is transferred to Amamiya's division, and finally opens his eyes to the possibility of promotion. Unfortunately, his unprecedented work behavior abruptly brings things to a halt.

Although earning a reputation as a bad apple, the influence from Kuryu's strong pursuit of justice slowly begins to change things around him. This drama is filled with it all; love, laughs and lots of emotion. --Fuji TV

I was tempted to drop it after I finished the first episode. And the 2nd. And the 3rd. But around episode 4 I started to like it. By the end, I liked all characters, I laughed out loud several times, and I am glad I did not quit.

All characters have their own charming personality. The angles of the camera seemed a bit weird at the beginning, but I grew fond of it. It was very old fashioned. Not only the camera, but the presentation and introduction of the actors as well. It was like watching an old American show.

To be honest, I did not understand most of the cases, especially at the beginning, because I had to idea what was the role of a prosecutor and of a paralegal. That would be my advise to people who will watch to dorama; to read and understand the differences between prosecutors and paralegal and detectives and attorneys.

There are a lot of close-up of the faces of the actors, which leads me to one of the negative points in my case. I know that Japanese people do not have really good teeth, but when there is a close up and they talk, it is hard to not noticed their tobacco stains; mainly in Kimura Takuya and in Otsuka Nene (Nakamura Misuzu). It was very distracting.

Also, I think that Kimura is a wonderful actor, and his role in this dorama suited him perfectly. What I don't understand is why he needs to smile that fake smile and laugh out loud to become perfectly serious in a second. It was unnecessary, and I disliked every time he did that.

This is the fist time I watch Matsu Takako; she is very good actress, very pretty, and she cries so nice. Also the first time I watch Abe Hiroshi (O_O), wow he is so tall!

It is an oldie (the oldest dorama I've watched so far), but it does not feel like it -except for some clothes (Kuryu's jacket; the ladies' skirts).

I liked the soundtrack; and the ending song was really good. I will start listening to Utada Hikaru after this.

Good dorama, nothing dramatic, has some fun moments, a tiny bit of romance, good acting and forgettable cases.

My review: 6.5/10
