Several short films put together under the common theme of One Sided Love (MDL-2016)

Zenin,_Kataomoi-p01

My Nickname is Butatchi:
Plot: Nomura (Sairi Itoh) and Satake (Taishi Nakagawa) are high school students and they have been friends since they were children. Satake was the one who first gave Nomura the nickname "Butatchi," but Nomura has feelings for Satake.

Review: I think Itoh Sairi is a sweetheart and I love her raspy voice, however, this one was my least favorite story of all of them. In fact, I took a break of several days after finishing this story. I think it was the only "pathetic" one-side story of all of them.

Boku no Sabotin:
Plot: Mori Erika is the sempai in the office of Sakurada Dori; she is kinda of a bitchy and he hates/craves for her but then he realizes she was only that way to make him grow as a worker.
Review: this is a common type of Kataomoi; a young man falling for the older, bitchier sempai. She is gorgeous, so it was understandable. It kinda makes me think that she liked him a little too at the end.

Something Blue:
Plot: Nozomi (Alice Hirose) has a hearing disability. She has always gotten her hair cut by her mother. Since becoming a high school student, Nozomi goes to a hairdresser for the first time. She feels heavy unease, but hairdresser Shinichi (Takumi Saito) makes her look pretty. Nozomi falls in love with Shinichi and her feelings for him only gets stronger. Nozomi then learns that he has a fiancé.
Review: my favorite story. It was bittersweet but a bit heartwarming as well? The hairdresser is hearing-impaired so there is a bit of JSL. Takumi was a bit stiff but Hirose Alice was wonderful with the little JSL she did. And this story has a HEA, not between them, but separately. And I love that, since he was deaf, the whole sequence, except for a couple of minutes, is without dialogues, words, etc; just a BGM that goes so well with the story.

Kataomoi Supairaru:
Plot: A Korean girl (trans? or just lesbian who liked to dress manly? I am not sure) falls for her roommate.

Review: in spite of the falling in love happening in 2 minutes, it was a nice story where the girl doesn't even know her friend fell for her. The Korean friend never tells the girl about it, so it is bittersweet.

Usotsuki no Koi:
Plot: A girl (Shinkawa Yua) lies to every single guy that she is taken because she thinks all guys are players. But then she meets Shison Jun who is different, but she already lied to him. So they are only friends, but she falls for him.
Review: Shison Jun looked like he had a wig! Awful... and Yua looked like a doll. For most of the story I was "why don't you just tell him the truth?". I don't know why, but this was my 2nd favorite. And the ending was encouraging, like maybe the girl would get her HEA.

Asahan no Yuge:
Plot: For the summer, Fuka (Fumika Shimizu) moves to a remote village due to her mother’s work. She isn't happy living there. Her cousin, Kaname (Yudai Chiba) comes to the village and lives with Fuka. At first, Fuka is embarrassed by Kaname who appears with painting tools and cooking ingredients. They don't get along initially, but their relationship improves with the help of breakfast made by Kaname.

Review: this one felt a bit incomplete, like why did he come? why is she angry? (seriously, why didn't she want to have breakfast??) why did she fall for him (his cousin!). This one didn't feel so much like a kataomoi, although she does have her heart break at the end.

Ibu no Okurimono:
Plot: this one happens in a nursing home for older people. And beautiful Yokohama Ryusei can't help it but be a sweetheart so of course an old lady falls for him.

Review: even if the old lady is old enough to be his grandma, it was a kataomoi tending on the innocent, first love type. Poor lady.

Radio Personality
Review: I didn't even think this was going to be part of the omnibus till the end. I thought it was only the presentation of each story (it is the radio show where the caster narrates each story), and I think the guy was married? Getting a divorce? And falling for her coworker it seems... since I didn't really pay attention to this story, I didn't care about the ending.

**My rating: 8/10**
