Aishiteru - Kayo
Mar. 30th, 2018 09:02 amAfter she discovers that her son Tomoya (Issei Kakazu), a fifth year elementary school student, has not gone to his cram-school class that afternoon, Satsuki (Izumi Inamori) demands that he tell her the reason. Eventually, he reveals to her that he killed somebody. Meanwhile, another mother, Seiko (Yuka Itaya), is at home worried. Her son, Kiyotaka (Shion Sato), a second year elementary school student, should have arrived home from school hours ago. (asiawiki - 2009)

I am always interested in this kind of story, either for book or drama or movie. A boy that kills another boy and how it affects their respective families. Both families suffer tremendously... being in either mother shoes is very painful. I felt sorry for both mothers, but Kiyo-tan's mother had all my sympathies till the last episode. Not only the actress is lovely, relatable, but I liked that she could understand the other mother's feelings. I know that people like to blame the parents of the perpetrator always, but it is not their fault 100%.. not always at least. This is not the only Jdrama that I watched with this premise, and where the victim's parents blame everything to the other parents, to almost hate them, but at least here, Kiyo-tan's mother realizes not all mothers know what their children are about, and that society blames the mother more that anyone.
I also like that the killer, Tomoya, isn't a bad boy... just a boy with family issues that leads him to do what he did. And that the father, who was an ass at the beginning, realizes it is also his fault, not only his wife's.
I guess that the ending wasn't entirely realistic... it was more like a utopia. It is fine that Kiyo-tan's family moves on, but it is like the mother more or less forgives the other family. And I didn't like at all that Tomoya gets out of the juvenile center after one year only... his punishment for killing a boy was just ONE YEAR?? And to bring another son to the world, having an older brother who killed another boy didn't seem responsible... the poor younger boy will suffer in the future.
I can't complain about the acting... both mothers were great, and I may be biased, but I loved Kiyo-tan's mother more. After some time, Tomoya's mother's tears were not as moving as they were at first. The consutlator Tomita-san was also very good... I was moved by her tears when she was hugging her son. The only actor was meh was Kiyo-tan's, but that's understandable since he was just a kid. Made me even disliked him for his cruel words.
***My rating: 8.5/10**
