Tantei Yuri Rintaro
Dec. 25th, 2020 08:18 amRintaro Yuri (Koji Kikkawa) used to work as the chief of the First Investigation Division in Tokyo. Due to a case, he resigned from the police force and moved back to his hometown of Kyoto. Now, he works as a forensic psychologist in Kyoto. After receiving requests from the police, he helps them with their investigations. His investigation method involves careful observance of the crime scenes and he uses trace techniques learned from a hunter. He met that hunter in the Rocky Mountains, USA, during his school days. His assistant in Kyoto is Shunsuke Mitsugi (Jun Shison). Shunsuke Mitsugi admires Rintaro Yuri and runs the website "Yuri Rintaro no Jikenbo," which records Rintaro Yuri's performance. The main actor, Koji Kikkawa, was a huge reason I wanted to watch this; he was great in Shitamachi Rocket, and he just screams classy. His duo being Shison Jun was a plus. Also, the dark setting in Kyoto! I think I have never watch a mystery set in Kyoto; this city is very dark after sunset and with the traditional houses, shrines and streets, I think it would be an amazing asset to a mystery drama.
Unfortunately all cases were MEH. Most of them were very easy to guess Who, and How... I guess the mystery was the Why? No idea, but every one of them was bland. And the darkish tone, instead of helping with the mystery, didn't play good for me because I only found a MQ copy so the quality was awful.
What was the point of the Detective's glimpses of his past? It didn't contribute anything to the story, we are never told what happened and who was the girl, his phobia was ridiculous and didn't contribute anything at all. Summary, characterization was poor. There was no bond between him and his pupil, it wasn't like a duo like Sherlock/Watson at all. There wasn't really any point of his pupil to be in the story.
I think I liked one case (2nd one, but could be because Akaso Eiji had a small role, and he looked so handsome), but the last case was, frankly, ridiculous. The girl who pretended to be a ghost, and like 5 people see her but no one can tell? Ridiculous.
**My rating: 3.5/10**
