Good_Morning_Call-p1

My first impression, in around the first 2 or 3 episodes, was that this drama was a good start for someone who has not seen any Japanese drama yet. I thought it was very cliche but cute and rather silly in an entertaining way. My thoughts started changing as I was advancing. Every new episode seemed sillier and less funny than the previous one, and the actors didn't help at all.

It was like the story was based on a fanfic written by a teenager. Not only the story is far from original (it is a mix between "Itazura na Kiss" and "Dame na Watashi Koishite Kudasai") but the dialogues were so pathetic. Two teenagers that unwillingly start to live together (same as InK and DNWKK) only that here, only them, the kids, live together. There are no parents, no adults. They are minors. Living alone. First I thought Uehara was a bit better than Irie-kun, but he was far from it. It is true Uehara isn't as jerk as Irie, but he is far worse boyfriend. And Nao was Too Stupid To Live. I don't know if it is because Kotoko was a sweetheart and less stupid, but I think Nao was far way more clingy and selfish. All her life revolved around stupid Uehara.

There are too many love triangles to make it interesting. Every one is in love with Uehara (why? he was plain and boring) and every nice guy is love with Nao (why? she was stupid and useless). There are no adults whatsover in their lives. Supposedly Uehara's big brother and his wife, but they were more childish and ridiculous than Uehara himself.

The actor who portrayed Uehara was a terrible choice. Not only he isn't good looking, which wouldn't have mattered if he had the personality, but he was like a zombie. And I was supposed to think he was cool only because he never smiled, never liked anything, was never interested in anything? Oguri Shun can pull that kind of personality, this guy couldn't.

The actress who portrayed Nao was far from cute and close to pathetic. Cries and makes a mess of everything, and I am supposed to find that cute? There was ZERO chemitry between the two of them.

Ridiculous drama. I fast-forwarded the last 5 or 6 episodes; it stretched too much, the story wasn't going anywhere, it was making my eyes roll so hard I was afraid to have a permanent eye-rolling. Not recommended at all, not cute at all, and of course, nothing romantic about this. Removed from my files for good.

Minato Shindo (Kento Yamazaki) has savant syndrome. His memory is amazing, but he has difficulty communicating with other people.

When Minato Shindo was little, he dreamed of becoming a doctor. He met Doctor Akira Shiga and he wanted to become a paediatric surgeon. Akira Shiga was surprised by the 7-year-old's memory of the human organs and he decided to support Minato Shindo in achieving his dream. Eventually, Minato Shindo graduated from medical school and passed the national exam for medical practitioners.

Now, Akira Shiga works as a director at a large hospital. He suggests to Minato Shindo to work in the pediatric surgery department at the hospital where he works. (asiawiki-2018)

If it wasn't because a regular subber started working on this sub, I wouldn't have picked it. Boy, am I glad I watched this! One of my favorite dramas of this season. It was sweet, with a wonderful cast, soothing OST, and amazing script. Like Kounodori S.1. Medical dramas in the pediatrician department is usually more moving, and it always depend on the scriptwriter to not make it corny, and it worked with GD.

I have to apologize to Yamazaki Kento, since when I've read he was going to be the lead, I wasn't interested. He is OK, but that's all for me. But he was amazing as Minato-sensei, since the very first episode. Portrayed wonderfully a sweet guy with Autism and Savant Syndrome (I've read that he did a research over the subject, so he was well prepared). I have not seen Freddie Highmore's version so I can't compare.

Of course, to me the MVP was Ueno Juri, such an amazing actress. Very natural, and looked very comfortable working with YamaKen.

I think I shed tears in every episode. I loved each one of them. Every episode was heartwarming, emotional and to the point.
