Sumika Sumire
Mar. 22nd, 2018 11:16 amSumi is 65-years-old and still a single woman. When she was younger, she worked at a flower farm and flower shop run by her family. Sumi wanted to go to college, but she had to take care of her grandmother, who got in an accident, and general household affairs. After her grandmother, Sumi also had to take care of her father and mother. Now, Sumi is 65 and she has never had a boyfriend. She is proud that she worked so hard, but now she wishes she could live a new life and become young again.
One day, Sumi wakes up and finds herself with the appearance of a 20-year-old. (asiawiki-2016)

Cheesy, super shoujo-ish.
We have the innocent, cute, nice MC; the attractive, nice, sweet, perfect male love interest (MLI); the trio of mean girls, whose leader just happens to be also in love with the MLI so she bullies the MC (but at the end they are sort of friends); one good friend for the MC and one goofy friend for the MLI.
There are tons of cliche moments, like when the MC gets drunk and the MLI takes her home (thank God it is like a bridal carry, not piggyback); or when the MC wants to give him chocolates on Valentine's Day but when it comes the moment, she doesn't have the courage to do it; when the MC stupidly follows the suspicious guy who, when alone, tries to take advantage of her; the mean but successful woman who is mean to everyone but instantly forms a bond with the MC, etc.
I didn't mind at first, that Sumire was 20-year-old girl who is actually a 65-year-old woman. The contract with Rei felt a bit like "Kuroshitsuji": him, a man in dark clothes, willing to do everything for his Master, etc. And the Valentine episode felt a bit like "Kimi ni Todoke". But towards the end, when the woman is crying over her lost love, it felt creepy. A 65-year-old woman crying over her 25-year-old boyfriend. Yuck. And the scene where she, as the old woman, goes and takes Mashiro away from his maybe-fiancee... yuck. And when Mashiro decides to be with her, even if she has her old body... yuck. I cringed several times, tbh.
The acting wasn't good. Kiritani Mirei is honestly the worst leading actress ever. She just CAN'T act. At least in this dorama it didn't bother me as much as in her other works. And Machida Keita (Mashiro) was just ok. Boring, but sweet. But forgettable. Gawd, their whole romance was boring and spice-less and saccharine nice.
I loved the OST, however. The ED song is nice, I am currently listening to it. Hata Motohiro, "Sumire".
I would recommend this only to people who likes to watch romance and cliche tropes. I don't enjoy them, usually, except when they are extremely well done. But this wasn't, and I was constantly rolling my eyes over certain scenes.
**My rating: 3/10**
