Ryusei no Kizuna - my review
Jan. 29th, 2016 09:57 amAt the age of 11, Koichi Ariake discovers his parents brutally murdered in their home. Furthermore, Koichi must tell his two younger siblings the aweful truth about their parents disappearance.
14 years later the three siblings still feel as much rage against their parents murderer as the day it happened. Then one day they locate the murderer...

I was not expecting too much about this dorama... and well, it wasn't much. At least it wasn't entirely gloom as I thought, it has it sort of light moments and some ridiculous ones too (like that scene were Kouichi comes into the restaurant and Nakashima Mika's character is singing... it was a WTF moment).
The good:
- Kouchi: or less say, Nino and the little boy that plays young Kouchi. They were definitely the best actors in the whole cast. Not I was impressed with Nino's acting, since I already knew he is great. The little boy also shone because his siblings were just ok. And I don't know if it was because he was the best actor in the dorama, but I think Nino was looking very handsome (although he may have needed a haircut) and he certainly did not look like a onii-san (he has such a boyish face!).
- The mystery: it was engaging to know who was the killer and why the parents were murdered. Along with that, the little swindles the siblings made. Certainly more realistic and fun to watch that those in Kurosagi.
- The OP and ED song: yes, again I liked an Arashi song thru a dorama. "Beautiful days". And this is the first time I listened to Nakashima Mika (I did know her, due tv variey shows and articles, but never listened to one of her songs before). Her song "Orion" is nice and I like her voice.
Not good:
- The other siblings, Shizuna and Tai. It was like Kouichi was more invested in revenging his parents' death that those two. Both of these two younger siblings were more focused in their own love life than in the revenge. It pissed me off. Shizuna was supposed to be the link to catch the murderer's son and take the final step, but no. She had to go and fall in love with the suspect' son. Could she be more idiotic? And then it was all tears because, oh, she loved the guy, she did not want to lose him, but my dear, wasn't the revenge that you all planned for 14 YEARS more important than a nice guy? What an idiot.
- And with that, this Tai. Yes, Shizuna was not their real sister, but they grew up together, and you don't necessarily need to have the same blood to be family. So yeah, the incest was NOT GOOD. It was lame and really pathetic.
- Toda Erica and Nishikido Ryo. I saw them in other doramas before and I liked them. But in RNK... wow, that was bad. Toda Erica was more focused in looking cute than acting good. My, how I hate the way she combed her hair! It may seem stupid, but I hated how she split her hair in half and had all her hair in her face.. even when she was eating! It was so annoying. And also the way she cried.. that final scene when she and her brothers are in front of the murderer, you can tell she was trying very hard to cry... it did not look natural. And as for Ryo... all he does in the dorama is pout. POUT IS OVERRATED!
- The final episode: it was SO anti-climatic. Even Kouichi says so. The reason for the murders... no, please no.
- Kiritani Kenta's role. I am so disappointed! I love the guy but he did not shine at all in this dorama. His role was so MEH. What a waste. On the other hand, again I liked Kaname Jun. I just remember him in other doramas where I could not stand him (RESCUE, Tatta no...) but I guess it all depends on the role he is playing. So if he was an annoying guy in other shows, of course I would think he is annoying. But with RNK and AND he was good, and I like him more now :D
**My rating: 7/10**
