Besides spending half of my free time (and sometimes, not so free) watching these entertaining Japanese variety shows, I also read a lot. Mostly fiction, but I also read non-fiction. I came across two different kind of books that made me wonder, which one is better?

1- 75% of the story is really good, you are loving it, loving the characters, the story. Then, the last 25% is pure crap.
2- 75% of the story is pathetic, you are not getting hooked, the characters are MEH. Then, the last 25% is amazing.

The first one, that I have in mind, is a YA book I recently finished. I thought the MC was funny, lovely, her voice was entertaining and her love story, sweet and romantic. But it all changed the last chapters and I ended up very dissapointed.

On the other hand, I've read another YA book where I was struggling to finish it. I could not like any of the characters, it was kind of boring, it took me days to continue (I keep going because people was mad about this book, I had to finish it to write a proper review). Then, it changed for better in the last chapters, and I finished it loving the characters and the story.

So yeah, I rather much have the 2nd situation. With the 75%good-25%bad, I think I feel cheated and I would decide never to read the same author again. The end makes up or screws up a story most of the times. If a book is bad for half of it and I decide to drop it, it would be my loss if it turns out the book was really good by the last 25%. But if I am happy with the story and then, the last chapters are going downhill, that would be THE REAL LOSS to me.

That made me wary too. When I am enjoying a book for half of it, I almost expect to get worse. I think that it also helps me to not to lift my expectations too high.
