Meizon do Himiko
Saori has always disliked her gay father and has lived her life denying his existence. One rainy day she receives a visit at work from a young man called Haruhiko. He tells her that her father is dying of cancer and that the nursing home he operates is in danger of closing. Out of curiosity and debt, Saori goes to visit her father at the House of Himiko, a nursing home for gay old men. It is a sad place but filled with sardonic good cheer. Surprised but pleased, Haruhiko shows her around. The old men who live there are delighted. Saori is at first repelled by the relationship between Haruhiko and Himiko but she soon sees that their feelings are genuine. She begins taking an interest in keeping the nursing home alive... What a depressing movie. I was in such a low spirits after watching it. I almost did not write a review, why bother? I want to forget I have seen it. I was expecting so much of it... it has Shibasaki Kou and Odagiri Joe, do I need to add more? I have a crush on both of them. She is gorgeous (and her legs!); he is gorgeous. Unfortunately this movie is far more being gorgeous...
Depressing because of how the okama spend their last years. Depressing because Odagiri's character is in love with Himiko who is drying. Depressing because Odagiri's character sleeps with whoever can give him pleasure or money for the institution (he goes as far as sleeping with a corpse! Meaning, an ugly, old perv.. yikes!) Depressing because Shibasaki's character could never forgive her father, who abandoned his wife and family to live as an okama (transvestite). Depressing because it seems like eventually she falls in love with Odagiri, who in spite of liking her very much, cannot be sexually attracted to her, no matter how much he tried. Depressing because, since there is no money (no other pervert to provide) for the institution, she sleeps with his boss, and becomes a regular mistress, even if she doesn't want to and is unhappy about it. But at least, the okama have a place to live.
Depressing as hell.
Oh, and if I was the teenager, I would have also a major crush on Odaigiri <3 Too bad that hair is all over his nice face, and his white clothes are horrendous.
**My rating: 3.5/10**
